Whats the symptoms of a bad release bearing?

Ok so my car just died completely.. no weird noises.. just out of no where the stick shift got really loose.. AND the transmission is unable to engage BY hand from the outside... so iam thinking its a bearing issue.. but which one? Because normally when you push in the clutch leaver, it will click into place, but mine doesn't click into place anymore.. just stays loose... does anyone know what bearing or what mechanism that is?

Shifter linkage problem most likely, the throwout bearing makes a fair amount of noise when it departs to Valhalla.. There are some plastic bushings that wear our especially if you rest your hand on the shifter..
