Fit N00b With Questions

I have a friend selling their '08 Fit Sport I am considering getting for my son. Since I know very little of this vehicle, I thought I would ask here a few questions which might help me decide what to do.

It has 128,000 miles. This sounds like a lot to me but our family has owned quite a few Hondas over the years so know that's not excessive for an '08. Any things about the '08 or higher mileage I should research or ask about as far as maintenance issues?

My son is 6' 5". I know Fits are fairly roomy but are they roomy enough?

Buying from a private seller for $4500. That seem reasonable? Standard Fit Sport package. KBB has it around $4,650 or so at good quality. I'll see it later today.

Any other advice from the Fit Freaks? Thanks!

You will most likely need a valve adjustment, new plugs and new coilpacks at 128K if not already done. Plugs and coilpacks are easy to do yourself - all you need is a 10mm wrench and a spark plug socket with a long extension. Tip: Get a magnetic spark plug socket. Prevents the rubber grommet from falling into the cylinder (I've done this and it's not fun getting it out).

Valve adjust, not so much, as you have to tear down the front of the engine to get to the valves, but it's not out of reach if you have the patience. Plenty of DIY videos here to do this. Tip: Get a set of bent-gauge feelers - makes it easier to do without burning your hands (thanks, Carbuff2!).

Don't cheap out on the coilpacks and plugs. For coilpacks, get the OEM Hitachi's, part number ends in 0053. Around $200 a set at rockauto. For plugs, get the OEM Denso or NGK iridiums. ~$35-40 a set from rockauto.

Can't advise you on height as I'm a shorty. But I'd definitely have him take a long test drive first to see whether he's comfortable. Much will depend on whether or not the drivers seat in the all-the-way-back position is enough room for him.

$4500 is about right with that mileage.

Thanks for your reply.

My goal is to give him something that can get him through for the next 2-4 years.

I'm 6' the seat goes farther back than I can reach the pedals (32" inseam" )
The right leg position is a little odd/cramped, Its not a car I dream about doing cross country trips in (But I'm over 50 and have a couple BMW's in the herd so not an issue)
Mine will be my Oldest daughters college car.

I don't have any idea how the '08 is size wise, but I'm 6'5" @ 240 lbs and the space in my 2015 is definitely enough to sit up straight without hitting my head on the roof liner and not feel claustrophobic. I actually drive with the seat somewhat forward which is new for me lol.

That's a good price if it doesn't need tires. Offer less if the tread is thin.

Otherwise it seems OK. Does your friend have receipts for service? I'd look for ATF and Brake Fluid replacements along the way...

Definitely have your son check out the legroom. I'm 6' and I have the seat in my ('12) Fit all the way back and it's certainly not too far.

Headroom will not be a problem.

128k isnt bad at all for an 08. That's 16,000/yr. Have him drive it. If and when he does, have him drive over rough pavement/railroad tracks. See if the seats support him over that stuff. If not he can always but Clazzio Leatherette/leather sea covers which has memory foam in them. They feel great.
