think about it guys: the poster suggesting you break in your car opposite to what honda says, and all these so called 'experts' opinions...if something goes wrong, you think THEY are going to drive down and pay to have your car fixed?
/end thread.
You are seriously dumb. No one in this entire thread has posted ANYTHING that will break it. You on the other hand ignore all logic and have blind faith in the engineer fallacy. Based on your logic, why bother about the space shuttle, the NASA engineers designed it, it could NEVER have a problem. and look where that logic gets us....dead astronauts.

Everything can be quantified, including your oil. If it is dirty, it needs to be changed no matter what the manual says. If you don't change it, damage will occur, this is a fact.

I'm amazed at how many people will argue and use some stupid logic like "it is in the manual" or "the engineers know best" and disregard all other logic.

Interesting point of view, and not without good reason. While it's common sense not to go below the standards set out by the fine engineers at Honda, going above them can be beneficial. Case in point: synthetic oil--- especially if you live in the colder climes.

But engineers do make mistakes. Many are not their own but rather, those of the bean counters at the manufacturing head offices. This is why phrases like "secret warranty" and "goodwill policy" came into being. (much to the chagrin of manufacturers and dealer networks of course).

This reminds me of a placard common in the homebuilt aircraft community:

In spite of the horror stories, many of these planes are of better quality and more precise engineering (not to mention performance) than their production-manufactured counterparts.

Yet even if you happen to be an aeronautical engineer, if you build your own plane in the experimental category (US) or "Amateur-built" category (Canada) your plane must display a placard stating something to the effect of "This aircraft is amateur-built and does not conform to safety standards set out for production aircraft."

Some homebuilders have installed rebuttal placards on their instrument panels that read "REMEMBER: The Ark was built by amateurs. Unlike the Titanic, which was built by professionals."

I bought my 09 Fit Sport MT from John Eagle Honda, and I got a free 10year/300k mile warranty the motor, from rings, to bearings, rods, cranks, balanceshafts, the whole motor is covered, as long as I change the oil every 4months or 4k miles with any Quaker State brand oil. So i'm going to be changing the break-in oil at around 3500 miles to keep the warranty intact. Theres some food for thought, I also plan on doing blackstone lab testings for every change, the results should be interesting.

Yes, please keep us posted. I think that's early to be changing the break in oil. I don't think I'm gonna wait until the bitter end, but I figure I'll change it around 8,000 or so. But 3,500 seems early for the initial oil change. Did you bring this up to the dealer, and did he have anything to say?

Now I will admit I haven't dealt with Honda before, but when I had to take my dad's cruiser in for maintinence we'd always get it back worse off than it was going in (airbox installed incorrectly. twice. Missing brake fluid cap, breaking the grill on the car and insisting we had done it in the time it took us to walk out of the dealership to our car, ect.) Anyone else have good luck with Honda in general?
First oil change at 2K? I believe that's a bit early. I never take any of my Hondas to the dealer. I don't trust them. I usually work on them myself or take it to my friend's shop.

I did my first @ 8500 (20% oil life left). Just did the second @ 19,000+ with the maint minder coming on at 15% oil life.

My opinion, follow the manual. Warranty is intact as long as you meet the recommended maint intervals.

BTW...use Mobile 1 oil and filters. Best? Doubt it, but I've been using M1 products for years and have no complaints.

Btw- I know nothing of synthetic oil but frankly, I'm thrilled not be dropping oil on my driveway with the fit. I'd like to keep it that way. Regular oil for me. Synthetic worries me, leak wise. So I've heard along the way, anyway. Probably from a mobil station!

There is nothing wrong with synthetic. The only cases where it is connected to leaks is in cases where people change to synthetic in high mileage motors. The seals in the newer motors over that past 25 years are fine with synthetic. Your engine WILL last longer on synthetic.

Red face Synthetic oil

At 10k your engine is broken in and ready for synthetic. 5-20 is the recommended weight but 0-20 will give you maximum start-up protection in colder weather. Definitely pay extra for the oil filter that is made to work with synthetic it does not pay to go cheap. The oil should be good for one year of driving unless you operate under severe conditions. Tests on big trucks where they pull the oil out and send it away to a lab has shown the synthetic keeps on working far past the typical change frequency. I over service my cars so I will change my oil min once per year and maybe twice and at the same time drain the trans and top up with fresh trans fluid. The engine and trans are expensive to service. Coolant should never stay in more than two seasons no matter what the bottle says.
