GE8 Flywheel & Clutch

Hi People,

I want to know if the GD engine mount, flywheel and clutch are compatible with GE's transmission as I couldn't find many tranny parts made for GE.

Thanks!

Spec makes GE clutches don't they? I was just shopping for a stage 1 yesterday. Just window shopping though, clutch is still going strong.

Clutch Masters, CM makes clutches for Honda Fit from 2007 through 2009. The same part numbers are listed from those years. Does that include both Honda Fit GD and Honda Fit GE or is it a typo? I saw one thread where the OP installed a CM FX200 in his 09 Sport and believes the lightened aluminum flywheel from the kit caused cylinder misfire. The OP didn't post any resolution. Both Exedy and SPEC make clutch kit for the Honda Fit. Their part numbers are difference between the two Honda Fit generations. I cannot find any information from ACT and Competition clutch. My assumption is that both companies doesn't have a clutch kit for the Honda Fit. Team M Factory makes a chromoly-zinc flywheel that I like better than the aluminum one. Unfortunately it is for the first generation Honda Fit GD. There doesn't seem to be too many options. I too would like to know if Honda Fit GD flywheels and clutches are compatible with the Honda Fit GE.

From the little research i've done it appeared that GD and GE clutches and flywheels are different and not swappable, that makes me question the Clutch Masters listing because there were a lot of premature listings like that (MFactory comes to mind) when the GE came out, then they started finding out parts were not interchangeable and took them down. If this is incorrect that'd be nice to hear.

It seems the GE doesn't like lightened flywheels, the ECU reads the change in harmonics as a misfire. There was a brief thread talking about a function in a scanner to relearn the harmonics, but I saw no resolution or confirmation that this fixed the code.

There are a ton of clutch options if you shop in Japan

Locally available i've only found Exedy OEM replacement and the Spec clutches which offer varying "stages" from 1-5. I am hoping the CM listing is legit, the more the merrier.

There indeed WAS a few confirmations of the misfire. The crank sensor in our cars doubles as an extended resonance detector of sorts. Lighter weight allows the "jerks" and twisting of the crankshaft to be more easily seen.

Nothing to worry about, as one or two people did say a battery pull and a COMPLETED idle relearn reduces or removes chance of the misfire issue.

The flywheels appear to be sold as both GD3 and GE8 fitment. I would imagine the pressure plate and clutch BOTH need to be matched to each gen though.

Sounds like a trip to an online dealership website to look at part numbers. The throwout bearings actually match up to ALL honda D15/d16/d17/r18/l15 engines. That is a small chance the pressure plate at least shares features in the center lol

just get a new clutch, forget about the flywheel, i confirmed with JUN AUTO from japan that the GE8 dont like lightened flywheels and thats why they discontinued the chromoly flywheel they used to have for GE8.

no motor "dislikes" lighter flywheels

Honda uses the crankshaft sensor as a secondary knock-type sensor.

The car thinks its misfiring when you install a lighterflywheel.

The ONLY solution is to have the crank sensor stuff reset in the ecu and relearn. I forget the honda names for it.

From the CRZ forums. This was talked about breifly on here but I don't think anyone confirmed or denied that the CKP pattern clear/relearn worked or not on the Fit?

I'm guessing what JUN auto meant is "they do not have a perfect fix for it"
And stopped producing the chromoly flywheel mainly because of a CEL issue that cannot be reset.

search on here for lightweight flywheel. I do believe I saw at least one or two success stories of clearing the cranksensor pattern and making it relearn.

What it boils down to is, the lightened mass allows the sensor to see more flexing of the crankshaft since the lessened mass reacts faster, and doesnt absorb as much vibration/resonance

Hi Onc932
Is yours a GD or GE? I have talked to mfactory and they told me that their LSD would only work on JDM transmissions. Where did you get your quaife from?
Thanks

Running a SPEC Stage 4 4 puck, Cusco 1 way diff with stock flywheel on my GE8 and was all set to buy a JUN flywheel years ago and when I placed my order I received an email stating that the project has been delayed and possibly cancelled. When I inquired further, the same info was passed that it tripped the CEL and they were not going to investigate a solution.
