Finally installed the horn on. It was like laying on my desk for a couple weeks hah.

The plastic clips holding the little apparatus around the hood pop were a pain in the ass.

 

I just called College Hills Honda to order an Honda Accord Horn for my new FIT. (part #38100-STK-A02). The guy in the service department indicated that they pulled that part number from their web-site. According to him there have been numerous problems with the horn operating for a period of time and then failing. They no longer recommend this as a replacement horn for the FIT.

I've read all of the related posts on this web-site. Am now confused. Any feedback would be appreciated.

 

I have had this horn for over 10 months and it still works like a charm.
Did they say what the average life expectancy is of the horns? I still have the old horn just in case.

 

No ... he did not specify any more details. But, he did seem to be very familiar with the reported problems.

 

I just did the upgrade on my 2010 Sport. I am a complete newb, so for any other newbs out there, here is what I experienced:

1. I ordered the horn (38100-STK-A02) and 2 clips (91518-SM4-003) so I wouldn't have to worry about them breaking during the install. Total price including shipping to Maryland from Honda Parts Now was $26.65.

2. The tools I needed were a small glasses repair kit screwdriver to help getting the clips off, a 12 mm socket to get the horns off and on, and pliers because I could not disconnect the original horn from the electricity without using a lot of force.

3. To remove the 8 clips to get the first panel off, I used the screwdriver to pop up the middle of the clip, then I pulled the whole thing out. The 2 clips on both ends of the panel are longer than the others, so make sure to keep them separate.

4. For the second panel, I broke one clip off and then flipped the panel around using the other clip as the axis so I really only needed to touch the one clip. I bought 2 just in case so now I have an extra.

5. Using the 12 mm socket to unscrew the horn was easy. The hardest part of this entire process for me was unhooking the original horn from the electrical connector. After about 15 minutes of pulling at it with pliers it finally came off. I am not sure if there is a button or pin or what, I have not seen any posts about it.

6. I could only get a little more slack in the wire, so I could not get the horn completely on the left side, though it is close. I don't think any water can collect in the horn the way it is now so hopefully it is fine.

7. From there, I just put everything back the way it was, using one of the two clips I bought where I broke the clip taking the 2nd panel off.

I did this mod and the horn still doesn't seem very loud? I can literally barely hear it inside the car.

 

Did the upgrade yesterday. Pretty simple. Took my time and didn't break any of the smaller clips. Sounds great.

 

I upgraded the horn in my 09 Cube to a WOLO Badboy and WOW! I have the WOLO for the FIT but could never figure out where the horn was located. I see the original pics are removed. Anyone have pictures?

I also left the stock horn in the cube and added the air horn as a second and trust me use the relay! Follow the motor cycle instructions, trust me.

I'm having a similar problem with my horn.....doesnt sound as loud, almost like the rinky dink fit stock horn.

then when I really needed it (oncoming truck showing bad turning manners) I slammed it and it didnt even sound!

After reading the previous post I have to ask why would the accord horn fail? is it the wiring? should I even bother replacing it with another , or even an aftermarket horn?

 

Well if the replaced horn pulled more power than the relay could handle it will blow it. Thus I recommend the additional relay to ensure this does not happen, now you can pull as much power directly from the battery and not blow your scooter pack weak horn components

and in all seriousness it's not that hard. you just have to be a little
careful with the clips. or if you just don't care about the clips. just
order new ones when you order the horn.
the rest is plug and play.

i did this just now my 09 and it works great. i made a video of the original and the new horn, will post when i have a chance. super easy.

Thanks for the heads up! I ordered my Accord horn today and it should be here tomorrow. I used to have Hella supertones on my 98 Subaru 2.5RS coupe, but I sold that car. They were great, but I think the Accord horn will be a worthy upgrade over the stock Fit horn.

 

I'm assuming this would work with any horn. My dad might get hellahorns for his 2012 wrx and I wanna take his horn. You'll basically only need a power and ground right? I don't see why it wouldn't work besides the fact that it might need a higher voltage to power the horn, but I'm sure that's very slight.
