Armrest extension for 2nd gen Sport

My homemade armrest extension for 2nd gen Honda Fit Sport. The existing armrest was too low, too small and not far enough away from the driver's seat.

My test armrest extension can be read at this link:https://www.fitfreak.net/forums/2nd-g...away-seat.html

And here are photos of my final armrest:

Made for $16 and parts around garage. Bump was made from a styrofoam coffee cup shipping container. Existing armrest was unbolted and covered with vinyl. I cut the container to fit armrest and space was filled with spray foam insulation. Sanded spray foam and covered with vinyl attached with long staples using with an air-compressor powered staple gun. Then I bolted it back on.
I hope the staples will hold in styrofoam. I considered using a small wood box so staples would hold vinyl better, but so far so good. I haven't completed it yet so you can easily see where i stapled it.
It seems to work well so far.

Comments?

Katzkin leather seats

South Carolina, USA
My slightly used 2013 Honda Fit Sport has Katzkin leather seats, installed by the dealer.I have no idea what Katzkin leather seats cost the original owner, but I like them.

Have you considered taking the existing armrest and using it as a template for creating a wider one? It would look a lot cleaner. Looks kind of goofy now, but it's all about the function!

The existing armrest was too low, too short and too close to the drivers' seat. Function over looks in this situation. I needed to go a little longer, higher and wider in order to be comfortable. Plus, in order to have a strong connection, the end of the armrest is in a box.

I know other people have modified their existing gen 2 armrests; please post your photographs here.

Here are new photos of my armrest extension after I added a vinyl-covered wedge in order to make it perfectly level.
