Rear Defroster

Hey guys,
I have noticed a few times that the bottom third of my rear window doesn't actually defrost. It doesn't REALLY affect me because I can still see fine and its safe etc. But I am emotionally irritated by it. Is this by design? If not how hard would it likely be to get fixed, I am pretty good with electronics so I cant imagine itd be too hard unless its something in the glass.

The reason a portion of the defroster grid in your rear window isn't working, is you have a scratch or break in the grid. The current that is applied to the rear window grid when you turn on that defroster, needs an unbroken path through that grid to work. When that path is broken, the portion after the break in the grid stops heating/working.

If you do a search on the internet there are repair kits out there to repair the break in the grid by brushing a metallic-like paint substance on the break that conducts electricity and bridges the break in the grid. The only other way I know of to repair it, would be to replace that rear glass/defogger grid assembly with a new one.

+1 on this advice. If you go to YouTube there are several videos about testing the defrost grid with a test light to locate the broken grid. After that try one of the repair kits. Otherwise you will need to replace the rear glass.
