I found a pretty neat backup camera that installs in the reverse light. It's is pretty much plug and play. Only problem is, how do I run the wires from the hatch to my dash? Seems like a pain. Anyone install one of these? I like to keep everything as clean and stock looking as possible. Thank you!
Across the hatch under the window along with the other strand of cables
Snake through the channel on the side of the window towards the rubber grommet
through the grommet to hatch roof area
across the roof to the passenger side
you can now either
Keep going along the roof line all the way to the front. Just peel the weather stripping back when you get to the doors, tuck into the headliner, immediately put weather strip back. This way is easier, but need to be careful about it not obstructing the airbag in the passenger b pillar.
Or snake it down to the floor of the rear hatch running it to the front. You’ll need to carefully pry up the the trim pieces on the edge of the floor to do so.
Run across the bottom of the glove compartment and up into the radio area.
Tips:
Test camera before routing the cable
Test the mounting location especially in the dark to ensure you are happy with it. On my wife’s car the reverse light creates just enough of a halo in the corner while in the dark that it’s distracting.
don’t tie anything down till you finish routing and test it again
running rca end through the flexible grommet is a pain but can be done. A few small drops of “personnel lubricant” into the high side then massaged into the center will help.
Have patience and set aside several hours to do this
