Back up camera

I just purchased a 2013 Honda Fit Sport/navi. It is in very good condition with about 50,000 miles on it. It has navigation. My question is that I was under the impression that Honda started installing backup camera on all vehicle starting in 2013. Mine doesn't have a backup camera. This car was hit in the back and wonder if they did not install a new camera. Is it possible to install one and plug to the existing head? Just curious.

When you bought the car did you happen to buy it from someone that owned it prior to the rear end collision that would know? Or by chance did you get the owner's manual and other literature like the user manual for your navi unit when you bought the car? I guess that would be too easy...lol.

The quickest way to get an answer to your question is to call your local Honda dealer parts dept. and ask them to research it for you. I would also ask them if you can still buy a user manual for the navi. If your navi came with a backup camera integrated into it originally, yes you can install a replacement camera in the liftgate and tie into the wiring harness to get the signal to the unit.

I don't think they offered a rear camera on Fit's until the GK5. It was likely standard on Odyssey's and Pilots first...That's not to say you couldn't add one....

Thanks you all. I think I'll pass on the backup camera. Installing after market radio/navi with backup will probably make me loose my steering controls, not worth it. Anyway, it's a small car. Can do without backup camera.

There are adapters that allow you to use OEM steering controls with aftermarket radios.

There's no place to put the camera and the monitor on the Fit from the factory. You could install a camera that goes where the license plate lights are (very neat installation) and use a CR-Z mirror (or something similar) as a monitor.

Enter your VIN and click the Equipment tab to see whether your car came with a camera originally.

I would say, if you want a back-up camera, there are now many, many options as to how to get one. Including wireless set ups.

I have a 2016 EX, with the back-up camera built in.
First of all....you still should use your mirrors. I only use the back-up camera as an aid. It can be very helpful. but I only use it as part of the equation not the whole equation. Takes some time to adjust to the camera's perspective.

2ndly, I really like having the back-up camera, but a frustrating aspect which I am once again noticing this time of year, is the propensity of the lens to become obscured by rain-drops when it rains.
Hate to reach a point to park, get ready to back into my space, throw it in reverse...only to see a Picasso like impressionistic rendition of what is behind me. Which is totally useless, and why I continue to also use my mirrors.

Easy one to solve, use a little RAINX or similar in the lense... Bingo.

On my Gen 2 Fit, I installed a backup camera in place of one of the license plate lamp. The video appears on a rear view mirror/screen. The car is small, but with a new driver (car was bought for my daughter for her 16th birthday) every little thing can help her.
