Disable rear cargo tailgate light?

Is there an easy way to disable the rear cargo light so it doesn't turn on when rear tailgate is open? I don't want to drain the battery on occasions like camping, etc ... when I want to leave the tailgate open for my convenience. I don't think there is a control switch for it like there is one for the ceiling light.

The simplest method is to remove the bulb. Otherwise, IIRC there is a rear cargo light assembly from another Honda that some Fit-owners here have swapped in that has a toggle switch to shut off the light.

An easy and smart way to do this is to replace the original light with the one that has a switch. Honda part 34265-SFE-003 has been mentioned by many people in this forum and it does not require any modifications.

As well as replacing the the unit that has a switch, look into LED in case you inadvertently leave it on. I changed all the interior bulbs to LED and accidentally left the door ajar in the garage. Car still started in the morning. I don't think I would have been able to with conventional bulbs

Thanks for all your answers guys. I went ahead and just took the bulb out. Very easy to do all needed was a flat head screw driver to pop the light assembly loose.

Swapping for the light with the switch is as easy as this, I just did it on mine so now if I need to leave it open for a while I can just hit the switch. It’s a cheap part and pops right in.

... Or just get a cargo light from any Honda with the selectable on/off switch.

Part number is 34265-SFE-003.

Source vehicles are HR-Vs, Accord Crosstours, and 5th/current gen CR-Vs.
