What’s going on guys…. So my delema is I bought everything to make a short air intake and once I removed the stock air box and installed the dam intake the car ran like shit… it was sputtering and had no throttle response. So I gave up and reinstalled the air box and put a k&n filter in there.
I guess the question I have is what did you guys do if building your own intake and please help me out. I know I ain’t going to make major gains, but would be nice to hear her growl a little more.
From what I've read you need to make sure the diameter where the MAF is doesn't exceed 2.5" otherwise you'll get bogging problems, lots of people end up cutting the MAF section out of the stock airbox & using that with the other piping to keep the diameter @ 2.5"

I guess the one I bought is 2.95 inches… I figured it would work since if fit the factory sensor…
as 2ndgen stated, the diameter around the maf needs to be precise. yours is too large, which directly relates to the bogging. crazy how intelligent our silly little cars are.
HPS is a legit company. After reading the above I did look up how MAF sensors work. It's dual temperature sensors where one is heated and one isn't, and it measures the difference between 'em. The actual figuring is handled by the ECU. Based on what I could find, the computer gets the info from the MAF sensor, along with others, and calculates the flow rate with some fancy equation.
With some googlery I found this: "To calculate Air Flow in Cubic Feet per Minute (CFM), determine the Flow Velocity in feet per minute, then multiply this figure by the Duct Cross Sectional Area."
So I think the equation requires a set diameter, at least (based on my findings) two inches to either side of the sensor.
The HPS intake has a diameter of 2.5". I think the consensus is that the part you got would require reprogramming of your car's ecu to work.
