So this is the weirdest thing. UIsually paint fades due to o2 oxidizing the paint and it's going to be the top layer. I figured this car would wet sand and buff out just fine but it's like the red is oxidized underneath the clear. So I'd have to wet sand down below the clear to buff the red out. It's crazy and the car isnt worth a total repaint... I mean it has 200K on it so I guess it will just have to remain pink.
The rear end was hit, so that part was resprayed and looks proper.
Anyone else deal with this or have any other ideas about the funky fade with the Honda paint?
Honda used single stage paint for the Fit. It's cheaper. But red fades. Mine lasted 6 years before going, resprayed mine in 2015.
Not on mine anyway. If you buff single stage you'll immediately have the color on the pad... plus you can usually buff the oxidation off if it's not too far gone. These have a clear coat, which by the way is peeling in certain areas like the bumper.
I recall many posts here about fading of red paint on Fits so I don't think you're looking at anything unusual.
My 2010 (Storm Silver Metallic) Fit Sport definitely has clearcoat.
The 2014 R81 Milano Red Fit I have in the family was basically pink when purchased, with varying severity all over. It machine polished out bright red to an acceptable finish in one pass with a ROB, Lake Country orange pad and Menzerna PF 2500 (all stuff I had on hand).
What you describe is very odd.... Did a previous owner add clear, perhaps?

It's hard telling but it does have a clear coat. Maybe certain years they varied the paint process? I don't know. The clear is peeling on the door handles and on the bumpers. I guess I'll just have to like pink! It doesn't look terrible.
