Extra Key Price?

Does anyone know how much it is to PURCHASE a new key and have it cut and programmed? I know I need atleast 3 (including the 2 they give you) if its cheap enough i could use 2 extras.

TIA

130

On my 08 my dealer quoted me $130. They don't mess around and I was being a jerk since I'm not used to pricey keys! I'm guessing this was the truth but that's for an 08.

Hmmm, I will have to ask for a quote when i'm up there next. I will let everyone know. Thanks for the 130 though, it gives me a good idea.

Is there no way to self program, as you can with Chrysler stuff (assuming you still have two good keys?)

You can self program the lock/unlock/panic buttons, but you cannot program the immobilizer. If you could do that, it would defeat the point of it in the first place.

The key itself can cost anywhere from $30 - $100 depending on your dealer. If you know anyone who works at Honda, it'll reduce your costs greatly. It should only take a few minutes to cut the key and about 10 minutes to register your new key to your car.

I personally got an extra key cut for free.

Of course Hondas may be different, but the Chrysler system amounts to teaching your vehicle to recognize different keys; inserting the originals in sequence enables you to do this. Long as you have two good keys, you're golden.
It bears saying that the Chrysler system is considered pretty effective in defeating thieves; consensus over at the Jeep forum is that the best way to steal one so equipped is to flatbed it.

Found out today that the key costs like 45 and the programming is 45 but my Honda guy said he will program it for free. So 45 for a chipped key with the remote keys on it isnt bad after all.
