09 Fit Window Tint Thread
#221
Well I am moving in a month from one tint Nazi state to another (California to Virginia). But as soon as I get to Virginia I plan on getting the 50% on all side windows and the strip on the top of the windshield and 35% on the back hatch, will post pics when I get it done....

I'll take safety over looks when it comes to a daily driver...if my fit was going to be a trailer queen show car, well, that's a different story

Just got mine tinted today, looks BA. 30% up front (I think) 5% in the rear.
*edit* Please ignore the bug splats and general filthyness of the car, I just got back from a camping trip and haven't had time to wash her.

I was going to have the windows tinted when I get my Jazz, but a colleague of mine told me that the defrosting threads (don't know if that's the name?) in her rear window (Toyota RAV4) had started breaking about a year after she had the window tinted - and after three years only two of them are working!
Has anybody had similar experience with sun film? - Is it a bad construction of the defroster, bad work from the dealer when applying the film, or could the film actually somehow "trap" the heat to a degree that the threads burn over (like a fuse)

to each his own, i love the darky dark backside. i live in texas and tint here is a SERIOUS NECESSITY! johnny law ain't too caught up in busting tint but why take the chance? plus at least keepin it legal(ish) on the front they will leave you alone. but i loooooooooove the limo around the back, totally seals up the glass on my CBP car. plus it seems to make the front look darker too. it is kinda hard to see out of on a dark street at night so that's another reason to lighten it up on the fronts. i guess tint in other locales isn't important but around here it REALLY helps survive the summer. holler.

I have a window tint and sign shop in Ohio. The tint on the window does not affect the defroster. Was this the first time you turned on the defroster after the installation? If it was they may have unplugged the wires during the installation. However, tint itself should not affect the performance of defroster.
My Fit has 50% in front and 15% in rear. I use to have 5% on back, but that was too dark and was difficult to see at night. I think 15% is alright. The Ohio law regulates front passenger to be 50% and no limit for rear passenger and rear window.
I have my wife's 04 Odyssey with 70% on windshield and front passenger. Pretty much unnoticeable. She hates dark look. This film cuts heat by half. Little more expensive than normal films.

I got a quote of $450. Compared to what a lot of you folks are paying, I'd be getting screwed. See the breakdown of the quote below. Can anyone recommend a place in northeast PA? I want it to be done right and look good, but $450 compared to the roughly $200 that everyone else is paying is crazy.
The guy would be using Johnson Vision Plus.
$47.50 per roll down window (4 = $190)
$35.00 per stationary window (4 = $140)
$120.00 for back window (1 = $120)
Thoughts?

I just got two quotes to tint my windows (I'll probably get them done within the next few weeks). For all windows in the back half (it's illegal in Illinois to have any tint on the windows on the front doors), I got quotes of $135 and $109 (plus tax). $450 is ridiculous--shop around.
