Anyone have a roofrack?

I was really considering a new Fit but am in a little dilemma. I currently have a 99 civic si with a yakima roof rack. The car does everything I need but I was looking for something newer. Now I was considering the fit because it is so versitile and has a lot of storage space. The thing is the fit wont carry what I transport anyway (really no car will) so I dont know if I should still get one. I carry two 8' surfboards and my road bike. The surfboards wont fit inside and the bike wont either. Not really a problem as they wont fit in really any car. The thing is a roof rack kills gas mileage so I was considering a car with better gas mileage and a roof rack. The thing is it seems the fit still gets some of the best gas mileage for all the other cars out there.

What do you think? Fit with roof rack? Anyone have one? How is it?

I know some of the 07-08 fits have had roof racks installed. I dont know if it will fit on an 09 though.

I have a 2009 Manual Trans. I have a Yakima with Q5 clips that works fine. 48 inch bars. Same rack and clips as for the 2008.

I also have gotten two windsurf boards inside - biggest is 8 foot 6 inches. Course. I don't have all the wax you have on a surfboard - so easier to keep clean.

Turbo, I have emailed Yakima regarding a rack that fits the 2009 FIT and they have yet to come out with it. But from researching a rack for my current car, the Q-towers and bars are universal (as long as you buy right length bars) and the only difference is the Q clips. With the right Q clips, your rack for your current vehicle should work perfectly and cost you only the amount for new clips.

As far as the reduction in MPG which I have read can result in a loss of up to 6mpg (consumer reports), you can look into purchasing a Fairing which may help you.

Good Luck and make sure you take some pics of the setup!

You folks could probably benifit from reading my piece, "Honda Fit Roof Rack Installation Instructions" "Search" it at this site. The tracks I used don't accept Q towers, but othes designed for the tracks. The bars & towers go on & off so easily, gas mileage is not reduced at all with them off. The tracks also allow adjusting the position of the towers/bars, giving ultimate versitility for long loads as well as accessory boxes, etc. IJ
