how about cutting anything? I know 1 of the intakes for the GD you needed to cut the splash guard to make it fit... also, will you guys make an air bypass valve like AEM's, or just leave it up to them?

There was no cutting needed. There is actually a panel next to the foglight that needs to be removed. 3 plastic clips and it comes right off.

I'm not losing a fog light for that !!! I'll just buy a shorty and run a ram air duct

It doesnt look like you need to permanently remove the foglight, just looks like they took it out to install it. Either way the best intake is always going to be where the filter is enclosed in a chamber inside the engine bay with a snorkel ram air duct leading to the front bumper into the chamber. Wish they can make something like that for the Fit.

bypass valves...are worthless IMO.
Just means you pull hot air from somewhere else in the engine compartment/ loosing vacuum power to where you really want cold air to come from.. (the lower filter).

I just don't fully understand the reasoning behind the CAI on the GE8. We have a stock air scoop that feeds cold air to the stock box. Why not just have a short ram that utilizes the stock air scoop thus no worry about hydro lock or anything.
On a second note...back to the CAI pictures...even with a hard downfall of rain and cars driving in front of you throwing up spray water is going to be hitting that CAI filter straight on. Yes it might get slightly more cold air than the short ram w/ the hood scoop..but IMO not worth taking the risk.

There should have been 3 pics. Not sure what happened to the first picture. The first one was the one up top. I'll try to snap some tonight of the SRI tonight after work and reup the first picture.

My thoughts exactly.

try taking a thermometer and put it in the 2 different locations and drive at 65 mph, tell us the difference.... that would be cool.... also, there is a big difference between unrestricted, and restricted airflow

air intake

New guy lurking with a couple of seemingly obvious comments. Most air intake mods from honda to porsche fail to produce results in reall time. It seems fairly straight forward - if the factory could produce extra power from intake, why not? Then Honda could bring a smaller engine as in UK or Far East with same grunt. Exhaust may prove a better area to look at, along with looking at chip, but that must surely effect mpg. Fit is a great car, but if you want to mod it up, perhaps you should drop in a vtec, or just buy an si? just a guy talkin'

First off.. good luck with getting a chip to work on this car

Most intakes I have seen will yield reasonable results, I have used a number of them and never been disappointed.

The answer to your questions "Why doesn't Honda..." is the same every time. They draw the line for certain extras, if something is functional they don't pretty it up or optimize it for performance... it gets optimized for mass production.

Our fits already have i-vtec. Honda didn't make our cars with power in mind. Their main goal was fuel economy and comfort. I'm sure a few more whp could be extracted from bolt ons. But not this much.

I am pretty sure the reason that Honda doesn't just slap an intake on the car from the factory may also be from the noise factor. The reason your airbox has numerous baffles and ridges in it is to minimize the sound of incoming air.
