Sorry to hear about your troubles ec8r. I have USAA and they said if an object is stationary in the road, it's up to the driver to avoid it, therefore counted as a collision. If an object had just fallen onto the road and was still in motion, it's an act of god or in some cases the fault of another driver that dropped the object. The act of god part is covered under comprehensive.

After reading this thread, I went to Lowe's and bought a 5 pack of Aluminum Gutter Guard ($10). I have 4 sheets left if anyone in the San Diego area wants one (free). The installation was a breeze. Popped the hood, removed the plastic piece around the hood latch and removed the upper grill for access. Gonna go clean my baby after this post. Here are pics of my install.

From the engine bay. You can see the zip ties, but i cut the excess after taking the photos.

I made extra cuts in the guard to make room for my temperature sensor and i wanted the contours to match.

Here are the front shots. The zip ties aren't noticeable until you get right up to the air dam. From a standing position, you'd never notice them.

I like the billet grill in my sig, or I wouldn't have it on it.

Of course, its a GD3.

Search "billet grill honda fit" on ebay for it.

Thanx. I'm waiting to see how it holds up before i go for a more expensive solution. The guards are made of aluminum, so it wont be as noticeable as iron or steel rusting.

This is the way I'm going... I just got some black rubber/plastic mesh fencing that should cut up nicely and be more corrosion resistant than anything! It won't dent up like metal either! Weeeeeeeeeee!

I installed the aluminum gutter guard last November. I just went out and checked it and true, it's no longer shiny, but other than that it has held up fine. After a winter with lots of snow, slush and road salt/gravel.

Personally, I'm fine with it not being shiny. I tried to paint it black when I put it on, but the paint ( Rustoleum; both can and spray ) would not take. It would come right off with my fingernail.

Not too worried here in San Diego. Maybe acid rain, but it seems to only rain once a month.

yeah, but you're also not putting it on an unpainted, over the top, misaligned body kit.

It's a quick, inexpensive fix. It was November and I wanted to take care of any condenser issues before the winter set it.

And now it's done and the only time I see it is when I wash the car. So I doubt that I'll be changing it out.

The next thing I do to my car is try out Meguiars new SwirlX on the dealer induced scratches.

Yeah, I imagine once rocks start dinging it, it will begin to look cheaper and cheaper. That's why I went with the black rubber/plastic mesh fencing... we'll see how that holds up. I'll try and post some pics when I'm finished with the setup.

If you will spray the gaurd with brake cleaner before you paint, it will stick better

I installed my mesh today. I used the black powder coated mesh with black zip ties and you don't even notice the mesh because its so dark.
I tried to take a pic but it was cloudy here today and the mesh was too dark to show up. I will try and take a picture later when its sunny out.

I'll give that a try. I did sand and clean it really well. But not with brake cleaner. Thanks.
