Cleaning Window Tint?

Hey, Sorry if this has already been covered. What do you guys with tints use to wash your windows? Can you use Invisible glass? I'm taking my car in tomorow for 3m tint and was just curious if tints can be a maintanance nightmare.

You just have to avoid ammonia based cleaners. If in doubt, just ask the shop to recommend something (they will probably sell what they use).

If you buy auto glass cleaner, you will be safe. It has no ammonia and you can get it anywhere. (Wal-Mart, auto parts store, etc.) My tint installer also suggested mild soap and water. I used auto-glass cleaner on my last car. Tint lasted 10 years without a problem.

I always use two cotton or terry cloth towels. One wet with water, the other dry. Just clean the window with the wet one, buff the window with the dry one. It was a tip I got from my tint guy and the best way I know to avoid streaks of any kind.

I use Purple Passion "professional strength" glass cleaner from AutoZone and a microfiber towel; works great! Just be sure there's no ammonia in the product you choose. Mine says *Safe for tinted windows* right on the front.

I use Invisible Glass on the tint and it works just great. I am going to try the wet and dry clothes next time and see how that does for me.

Stoners invisible glass is the best glass cleaner I've used. Safe for tint, I use microfiber towels especially designed for glass. No streaks or lint.

Check the window tint thread in my sig. It answers all.

And maybe next time use the search function. Seems you pretty much knew it had already been covered, but didn't bother to actually check.

In fact I did an experiment and typed into the search engine "clean window tint" and my thread was the second thread posted. Behind this thread. So the window tint thread would have been the very first thread posted if a search had been done.

Don't take this the wrong way, I'm not being a jerk here. I am trying to be helpful to you and everybody else. The search function is here to help us. Use it.

Unless you're a smoker, you should not need to use anything other than a damp paper towel to clean and a dry paper towel to dry the inside of the tinted windows. Window tint cleans very easily to a streak free clean. I've had every vehicle tinted since moving to Texas 20 years ago and have yet to need anything, not even soap, to keep the inside of the windows clean.

stoners invisible glass + newspaper (la times, new york times, etc... a high quality newspaper brand) works THE BEST at cleaning windows and tint. Hands down.

Like somebody mentioned, there is really no need for soaps of any kind to clean the window.

Best method in my opinion is having couple microfiber cloths. Use a damp one to clean, then wipe with a dry one. It's easy to avoid streaks with microfiber, and you also won't get little pieces of towel everywhere from using a terry cloth.

Just a mild soapy water is most you need and I own a tint shop in Ohio. When cleaning the edges just becareful not to scrub too hard or it could lift the edges.

glass cleaner, then wipe with paper towel (does not have to be completely dried with the paper towel), then finish with microfiber cloth for a streak-free finish.

Or skip the "paper towel" step completely and just use the microfiber!

you could do that...i just don't like using wet microfiber haha
but the paper towel does a little better if u have to scrub a little crap off the window while its wet.
