Question about Fit factories and how to order Double-Din fittings

Hi everybody,

I am now deciding between a Mazda 2 and the new Honda Fit.

As I want to buy a car that is built in Japan, I would like to know if there is any reliable information about the Fit. Some people say they are built in Japan, some people say China. What is right?

Also, I would like to use my own Double Din HDD Navigation unit (Pioneer AVIC F 900), and I was wondering if it is possible to order a new Fit without any Radio installed, but the fittings for the Double DIN Nav Unit pre-installed. I have asked a Honda dealer but he couldn't give me factual information.

Thank you very much in advance!

Carsten

US and Japan market fits are built in Japan. I want to say all Fits are built in Japan, but I'm not entirely certain. I'm sure somebody else will chime in with definitive information.

Regarding the radio, it's not possible to do a radio omit, let alone do the omit with the double din trim piece. Here in the US, some have ordered the trim piece separately, removed the factory head unit, and fabricated their own bracket for the Pioneer nav unit, and accomplished the install that way.

Good luck, either way you go.

As far as I know, all Honda Fits are currently made in Japan (Suzuka, Japan me thinks).

The Fit is assembled in
Suzuka, Mie, Japan
Sumaré, São Paulo, Brazil
Guangzhou, Guangdong Province, China
Ayutthaya, Thailand
Karawang, Indonesia
and Swindon, England later this year

I think the Euro Jazz is assembled in Japan

When in doubt, one can always check the country of assembly on the driver's door jamb. In our Fit's case, it was Japan. For even more information, the Monroney sticker on every new vehicle lists percentage country of origin for all parts. This might be interesting, say, for a Hyundia assembled in USA, where engine and transmission and many other mechanicals may be of Japanese and/or Korean origin.
Anyway, I dug up our Fit's original sticker, and it more specifically states the assembly place as Suzuka. It also states clearly that the percentage parts of US or Canadian origin is 0%, and the foreign parts are 100% from Japan.

From Wikipedia:

The Fit is produced in 5 factories throughout the world. Suzuka (Japan), Sumaré (Brazil), Guangzhou (China), Ayutthaya (Thailand), and Karawang (Indonesia). Models produced in Japan are for Honda's home market, exported to Europe, some Asian markets, as well as Canada and the United States. The Brazilian factory supplies all of Latin America and the Caribbean. Chinese models are sold in mainland China and also exported to some left hand drive European markets, while Jazz models in Hong Kong are made in Japan.
