So today I went to the gas station to clean my car and I decided to make sure the psi is alright. I checked the side of the car and it says 33psi which of course I followed but now my front tires seems deflated anyong can tell me the optimal psi for the stock tires thanks

 

The manual says 33 for the sport, 32 for the base model. I run mine at 37.

 

At 37psi do you get a tire pressure warning?

 

mine are at 40, but i don't have tpms. mine is a base model btw. with the stock tires they seemed too soft so i tried 35, and i settled at 40

 

I've run mine at various pressures between 35 and 40 PSI, and the TPMS hasn't said anything about it. 33 PSI feels a bit soft to me, so I'm running them at 37-38 (Fit Sport).

 

I think there is a range for that...That's why there are different inputs here...

 

the tire sensor is only alarmed when you go under the minimum psi, not over.

 

alright I'll try prob 40psi tomorrow since 33 my front tires are looking flat haha but ya I don't know why but when I checked the tires were at 51psi which was the max psi for the tires and that scared me a bit since it was like that since october 2008 when I got my fit

 

Were the tires cold when you checked them? Always be sure they are cold (not driven on) when setting pressures.

 

I run my Sport at 45psi all around. I drive like a grandma tho.
If you plan on running higher pressures, just remember the handling is adversely affected.

 

Higher pressures may also wear the center of your tread.

 

In the past with older tires hiway speeds at or over 70mph psi should be 5psi higher than normal. IMO 33-35 psi feels like it has great grip 40psi feels like on ice in high speed turns. I'm drive like there is no tommorow sometimes.

 

You should recheck your tire pressures when your tires are cold...and I mean when you haven't done any driving for 3 hours at least.

 

Factory settings are a good place to start; I used to run 35psi all around in about everything. Then I noted wear in the center of our VW's tires, and the Wrangler too. My wife's Passat calls for 30 front/28 rear unless heavily loaded, and 33f/30r for 100mph+. Gotta love the Deutschers.
Also noticed that the car's handling was more neutral with more air in the front than the rear.

TPMS has no problem with the higher pressures.

Actually when we got the car when my wife was driving home the light came on. Checked it when we got home and the dealer had everything at 28psi. That is when I filled them up.

Also, the warning light goes off after driving 1/4 mile after the pressures are back up above normal, per the manual and ours did that.

 

i say just follow the recommended psi. but that's just my opinion.

you can put in a couple more psi if you really want to but know that it's gonna make your ride more harsh. and yes they will "look" deflated even when at the right pressure because they're radial tires; they will bulge at the portion that is touching the ground. if you want them to "look" fully inflated, you may proceed with over inflating them.

 

i jacked mine up to 36 psi all around.

I notice a slight changed in the handling/cornering but its good for now since the car is a daily commuter and less fill up and less tire wear is what i'm aiming for.

 

I like that this is the general advice, and that the majority of ppl drive to the gas station to check and fill their tires
