Just to be clear, I don't obsess over long coasts to stop either. It's just that my commutes are at night with much less traffic. I don't have a line of cars up my ass to consider. If a light changes to red well ahead of me, I have the option to roll up to it, instead of rushing up to it like when you have a line of cars behind you. It's kind of hard to explain, but it's there. There's a jostle from 2nd to 1st, at the right speed. At least there is for me.

I tested this tonight and it seems that it does happen more when the engine and tranny are still cold rather than when they are warmed up. It is however the ecu downshifting to first at 6mph. In sport mode you can actually watch it as it skips 2nd gear.

 

Maybe we can all complain to Honda. I bet they could come up with a much better downshifting pattern with a software adjustment.

 

Must be a sport thang. I went cruisin' for a gallon of milk in my base an hour ago and tried to sneak up on a stop to feel the lurch. Did this about 5 times with no one around to say "what the hell?". There was a small "bump" sometimes when it went into first, but no more than you would get from a tar-line in the road. Indistinguishable except for the tach nudging up 1 or 2 hundred rpm. mmmmm capn crunch.

 

I have the same issue with mine...I posted about it a few months ago. No solution in sight, so I guess we have to live with it!

I drove my GE today in S mode, the lurch that was present in D was gone when coming to a stop. Mine indicator shows 5m,4m,3m,1m, 1m coming just as I stop.

 

Would you guys and gals that have the lurch issue try coming to a stop in "S" mode? My sport lurches in "D" but NOT in "S". If others do the same thing the behavior most likely could be fixed via software....

 

It's because the car is predicting a stop in regular D mode and preparing by downshifting. In S mode it is reacting, because its speed is low and you haven't manually downshifted yet; the car needs to be in 1st regardless so it takes over.

I'm experiencing exactly what everyone here has described with my 2010 base model Fit with automatic transmission. Has anyone recently taken their Fit to a dealership for a diagnosis? Does anyone know if this is the way the Fit normally operates? Thanks in advance!

 

I wouldn't call it a lunge or a lurch, but there's a definite "bump" when it clicks into first when I'm a few feet from stopped. Most of the time I don't notice it. It may be when I'm on a downhill stop and it's the grade logic kicking in. It seems to be "normal." 09 Base auto.

 

never noticed a problematic lurch, but sometimes i do have the "scrape" "crunch" or "sshck" sound when shifting from R to D. This even happens sometimes when I come to a full stop before shifting.

Ill have to pay attention to see if it only happens when the car is cold, but i know it does happen when the car is cold.

 

There are many times it doesn't happen. When you come to a typical faster stop in normal traffic, it doesn't do it- as though it 'skips' over it. When you roll up to a slower stop, it will do it right at the end. It is an annoying problem that should be resolved, imo.

My Fit behaves the same way. I only notice the lurch or bump when very slowly coming to a stop. Dan, have you, or anyone else, brought this to the attention of a dealership or Honda itself?

 

I have this problem as well with my Fit. I'll be having the dealer look at it in a couple of weeks. It sounds like a very common problem and it will be something we all have to live with.

I would say I drive similar to Shockwave199 (from what I've read). I haven't tried the "S" option. Regardless it makes my wife extremely car sick.

 

Or at least explained by a service bulletin. I'm sure a software update would "fix" it but maybe there's a downside.
