Keyless entry - voids warranty?

Hi folks, I’m a happy new owner of a 2010 Fit. My boyfriend has had all of the interactions with the dealer, and I’m afraid he’s as new to car buying as I am. I have a question about adding keyless entry, alarm and remote start.

The dealer told him that I would void the warrantee if I got keyless entry from anywhere but the dealer. Originally they quoted $1200 for keyless entry, alarm and remote start. Later they dropped this to $550. I got all three. The keyless entry included two key fobs---key not attached but separate. Also, I am not able to set off the alarm remotely (via panic button). The only way it goes off is if I open the door without using keyless entry to disarm it. I was disappointed because I felt the panic button is an important safety feature.

Does this seem like a reasonable price for these features? Should a panic button be part of any remote entry purchase? Was what the dealer told us about the warranty true? I’m wondering if he gave us misinformation and if there’s any chance I might be able to get some money back or log a complaint with Honda if the dealer mislead us.

I've always heard that your warranty can only be voided if the modification directly causes the problem associated with the car. For the dealer to tell you it voids the warranty, in my opinion, is a little misleading.

Bunch of caca (and I work at a dealer). They are just desperate for your business and want to scare you. Now an aftermarket one will not void your warranty, but if for some reason your car encounters electrical issues they will point out the aftermarket part FIRST! Sort of sounds confusing, but that is how it would work.

Your dealer is full of crap, but for whatever it's worth you have to hold the panic button down for ~5 seconds.
