Couple Questions on Maintenance
Couple Questions on Maintenance
I have a 2010 Fit Sport Manual, I recently changed my oil @ 6250 miles (first time) at the dealer when the maintenance minder was still showing 40% (dealer wasn't surprised, just said I treated my car well, I was skeptical and wondered if I inadvertently reset the minder along the way). The minder was reset to 100% after the oil change. Can I still rely on it to tell me when to rotate my tires since they reset it after oil change? The rotate tires minder never came up and I am now @ 8200 miles, I am wondering if I should wait for the minder or rotate my tires now? The dealer tried to charge $25 to rotate tires, I declined. I don't have an aftermarket jack and jack stands, so I plan to take it somewhere to do the rotation (maybe walmart) Any reason I should do the rotation at the dealer? (I am a bit worried about the impact tools they use, should I?) I will try to mark and label my tires before going to make sure they do the job correctly. What's the correct rotation pattern for the Fit 10 Sport? I read somewhere that the tires and wheels look the same from the inside out or outside in, that some mechanics might put them back on reversed, is that true? thanks!
The maintenance minder tire rotation code comes up on every oil change on my '07. Personally I use the old Ford tire rotation schedule of rotate the tires at the first 5K miles and every 10K miles thereafter. Been doing this for over 30 years with good results. You only get MM codes at oil change time. If you change your oil early (I don't
), you can check your upcoming codes by holding the odometer button down for about ten seconds. If you then release it and press it again for 5 seconds you will reset it. If you then do nothing it will not reset.

All directional tires have an arrow on the sidewall denoting the rotation direction. This is clearly visible. If you don't have these arrows, your tires are nondirectional. I wasn't aware Honda used directional tires as original equipment on the Fit. Many people confuse "assymetrical" tread patterns (as on the first generation Sport's original equipment Dunlops) for "directional" tires. Assymertical tread doesn't necessarily mean "directional" tires, again look for the arrows. I'm on the way to a dealer for a part, I'll check while I'm there.

As for rotation, I just rotate them each time I swap summer/winter tires. I know that doesn't work for everyone.

Every oil change.
...why not. That's looking like 9K...
I just checked the new Fits on the dealer's lot (three Sport, two base), none of these had directional tires.
I think when you see the wear it's a bit too far. Every 7K or with the oil.
I agree with whoever said pick up some jack stands. I already have a Cross tire wrench, hydraulic jack and jacks from other vehicles that I can use so rotating is easy.
I'd rotate now, then wait until the MM says next oil change then do it then.
Stick to the Maintenance Minder and you'll have no issues.

Thank you all for your responses. I was actually thinking of using my spare tire as a buffer to switch out my tires one by one, though I will certainly get a hydraulic jack and jack stands at some point. Any reason not to use the spare tire method? it would be like changing 5 tires, so it's only slightly more work.
It's actually a lot more work.
with a hydro jack placed between the doors on the frame, you are able to swap front to rear and rear to front in 10 minutes. If you're real good, 20 minutes for the whole job, tools back in their place and a beer. (25mins if you have to do a beer run)
