Do lights turn off automatically?
#22
Ok, this is for those that want to modify their Fit to have the light
turn on/off with the ignition switch. Bear with me, as I am new to
this forum thing.
In a nutshell, I've wired in a relay whose coil is energized by the
ignition circuit. One terminal of the coil is grounded, and the other
is attached to a "hot in the run position" wire. The switched contacts
are then wired between the light combo switch and the "micu". When the ignition is turned off, the relay opens and the micu is no longer
connected to the combo switch.
The relay does not have to be a heavy duty automotive type, since we're only switching low current logic. Just make sure the relay has a 12V coil.
I found a convenient place to splice just behind the steering wheel.
Just pry (gently) the top half of the clam shell cover to expose the
wiring to the combo switch. There's no need to remove the screws from the lower clam shell cover. Cut the black wire leading to the combo switch and attach each end to the relay contacts.
When I bought my Fit, the dealer had an alarm system installed to
secure the vehicle while they had it. I didn't buy an alarm from them,
so they simply disabled it and left it in. I removed the alarm, but left
all the splices they made. From these splices, I easily found a ground
and ignition enabled wire.
Remember, you can choose to have the relay energized in the "run" or
the "accessory" position. Its up to you.
Hope this helps.
BTW, I have pictures of the schematic and installation, but can't seem to upload them. Posting rules say no attachments. Is that rule for this thread or specific to me? Someone let me know.

Thanks. Too bad about pics; shows exactly where to splice.
