paint the base wheel covers?

I tried search, but didn't find anything about painting wheel covers. Maybe I am using the wrong term? Post a Link if I searched wrong.

Anywho, anyone paint the base model wheel covers? I'm not all about bling at all, but staring at them, they seem like a blank canvas ready to alter at will. I've a black car with these goofy silver things on the tires. Thinking gloss black might be cool for a while. Couple years later go flat gold or speckled midnight blue just to mix it up. Or even make it a line strait across it like the euro concept cars from the the 70s

I know they are just plastic and subject to chip, but it could be cheap, easy and fun.

Also, I know nothing. If anyone has skills and advice on painting that would be nice. I don't have an area to do a full on professional job, just take it out back and spray them on newspaper or something

Really. NO ONE has tried this? The covers look better than the rims alone... that looks like I couldn't afford a completed car

If you want a non permanent way to do this, try plastidip.

I plastidip sprayed my sport rims and they look amazing IMO, and its completely removable if you hate it.

britdevine, normally that sort of thing isn't what I'd go for, but I like it on your Fit. Matching the wheels to the red Honda badges is pretty darn cool, and gives a little bit of kick to a car that's a color that flies under the radar. Very cool.

And spray painting wheel covers looks like you can't afford the cheapest of wheels

I'd rather look like I can't afford an entire car vs. 100 buck wheels

It is tacky. Don't do it, for everyone else's sake.

Agreed. The only thing worse is when people add those 3M attached plastic hood scoops that are too small for the car they are on. (or add them to the roof)

OP, someone sprayed the steelies white on their white FIT for their winter tires and it actually didn't look too bad (better than the stock black steelies and was different than the normal steel wheel cover look)

Also, in my opinion, most all black wheels (whether they are alloy rims or steel wheels with black covers) look like you are running on the base model steel wheels, especially when the car is in motion.

That said, the car is yours and you should do what you like. The plastidip is a cool Idea and has been done elsewhere, plus you can change over time as your tastes change.
