Fuel economy WOW
'10 base Fit, 5MT, using average MPG readout. Stock Dunlops at recommended pressure. Driving style: slightly on the mild side, most of the time, but I'll goose it when I need to. I don't really hypermile, but I try to conserve momentum at least.
Short trips/winter gas: about 34-35 MPG
65 MPH or less, on highway, winter gas: about 37-39 MPG
70-75 on highway, winter gas: about 35-36 MPG
Add about 2-3 MPG for summer gas, subtract 1 if A/C is on. Take off another 1-2 MPG for strong headwinds, or add 1-2 for strong tailwinds.
I had similar highway mileage with the 2000 Saturn SL (5MT), and slightly lower city mileage. The Fit has a lot more pep.
My MPG readout has averaged 0.7 MPG optimistic, and lifetime average MPG (hand-calculated) is currently at 36.1; it has been trending upward since Februrary.

I have this really strange feeling. I can't wait for my next fill up?? I want to see how my MPG is but the needle is dropping so s l o o o l y. I almost broke down and filled at 1/2 tank. It's taking alot of will power not to pull into a station, weird

My last tank was 43.2mpg! my best reading ever! my current tank is 42.9mpg over 430mi.
I drive like a super granny, rarely use my AC, I use mobil1 Synthetic oil, I coast to red-lights like you read about!, I usually always keep it under 55mph, tires inflated to 40psi
I love my Fit!!

2nd fillup is disappointing
27.45! Understandable but still after 34.43 on the first tank.
All miles were short around town with the AC always on. Even when I sit and wait for wife the car is idleing with AC on. So I am not complaining.
2nd tank was at exactly 500 mi with a total of 16.136 gal and an average of 30.98 MPG for 2 tanks. Still very good considering the type of driveing.

I must get around 22mpg, this car takes revs so easily, I can't drive it other than to the red line at every shift change.
Get a diesel or a geo metro xfi, you will get this mileage without giving a fuck about it.
The fit is nice but isn't really fuel efficient, especially with the engine revving so high on the highway with the manual tranny.

The FIT isn't a City car, it also isn't a Highway car (especially in 5MT form). Where it really shines is in country road driving. Averaging 40-50mph on twisty roads.
Last week I decided to not care too much about economy and just enjoy the drive to work. (Flooding had receded just enough to let me take the "fun" way to work) so I took that all last week. Filled up yesterday for a 37.73mpg for the week.

38 plus mpg
Just got in from 700 mile trip from Orlando to Raleigh. I got 38 mpg on the entire trip. I have 3400 miles on the car and am very pleased. Speed on highway in the 70's to 80 and NOT driving like a granny! Love the car in every respect.
Ya, I just finished my first tank the other day on mine. I expected good, but not as good as I got. The tank was used in this manner:
8 Quarter Mile Passes
60/40 Interstate/City
Interstate travel @ 75-80 MPH
I got 33.4 MPG. Pretty pleased.

I also like the Fit for city driving (St. Louis, Chicago, Pittsburgh, Boston) because of great visibility, easy parking, and a well-integrated navi.
Of course we live in the country so most of our driving is on the county roads. Here is the problem—while it gets great gas mileage at low, back-road speeds, it's unhappy in the ruts caused by heavy farm equipment and trucks, particularly when the ruts are full of water after a rain. Our old Miata and our TL don't seem to be bothered by the ruts like the Fit. The other problem here in Forgottonia is that you have to work to find gas without ethanol. Gas with ethanol really cuts into your MPG.
Just writing about this makes me want to get the car out and take a trip somewhere. We can drive the 500-mile round trip to Chicago on $40-worth of gas.
Cheers.
$4.00 a gallon not so bad
Over in the UK we pay $9.00 for unleaded gas, the 1st thing to do is reduce weight in your Fit, so remove all the gubbings form the boot, remove luggage rack, fill with quality Gas here we favour Shell not supermarket gas.
Finally check the condition of the air cleaner always change very 12months.
My Gas Mileage ?
Well I average 46mpg but thats town B Roads and imperial measures, on the Motorway 50mpg +
PS I average 360 miles per tank fill to fill which costs me £46.50 = $78.00

I really like the 5MT for highway driving even though the RPMs are higher at highway speeds. I found the automatic to be "shifty" with the cruise on when I came to hills. I can see why you'd get better MPG with the auto, though. The longer we have the car (37,000 miles now) the less the crosswinds bother me. Headwinds kill the gas mileage, though.

I avoid the water filled ruts but even so, I didn't feel that much hydroplaning when I venture into the puddles since the tires are pretty narrow. Most of the time I'm just off center on the roads so the fit straddles the ruts.
The economy however is great. on my way to work today in a lighter rain (AC periodically being cycled on for de-fogging), the comuputer was reading 46mpg (I have to admit, I was playing the "cruising in a line of traffic, lets see how high I can get the MPG" game) On the way home, I wasn't in a line of traffic and was traveling right around 60 in heavier rains and more "pool-filled" roads and the MPG dropped to 42.6. Temp was right around 50 both times.

That ain't the way to do it. You need to get up to speed reasonably quickly and coast. If I am in a "stop sign every block" situation I take off pretty quick but coast most of the block. The key for city driving is not using the brake for slowdown.
Cheers.

The nice thing about a Fit is after you put up with its "charm" for a while you can pull into a gas station and appreciate one of its great virtues.
Cheers.
Enjoy that southern Illinois springtime!
So are you S of Springfield?
