If you don't use a JDM filter how will you ever get mad street rep?

I have a K&N on my Fit only because I got a good deal on it. Keep them lightly oiled and you shouldn't have any issues. I have ran many K&N filters in the past. The only reason I ever get drop in filters is to save the money on changing them.

In my experience AFE makes good products as well.

The number one thing I stress in this discussion is to remember an air filter is just that, an air filter. Remember in most, if not all cases, the increase in flow comes with a decrease in filtration capability.

I can also tell you that while "every little bit helps" that the difference in air filters on low power cars creates a very marginal difference in flow. The testing I have seen shows that the OEM style paper filter creates less than a .1 psi difference in air flow on typical small engines and can filter up to 5% better compared to higher flowing "performance" filters.

I think in the end it is up to the individual to decide if it is worth it or not. Like I said I went with it to save money and I enjoy cleaning and checking my filters personally. I also know that if an increased amount of particulates get by my filter and cause premature engine wear that I am very capable of rebuilding my engine. It will also give me a nice excuse to go forged if I ever need a rebuild.

I have run literally hundreds of thousands of miles through K&N and AFE filters. None of those vehicles used a drop of oil.

My GS400 has 160k miles on it and 120k of those were through a AFE filter (SRT intake system ECU) and I do 6-7k mile oil change intervals and it still does not use any oil.

I've got a ridiculous list of vehicles which ran aftermarket filters/intakes, not one MAF problem, no filtration related issues.
