How to get better antenna reception?

Hi. My commute takes me between 2 metro areas, so my radio reception is spotty.

Is there anything I can do to improve it? Maybe a longer antenna? If possible, I would like to avoid any wiring into the car's battery.

My setup is all stock, btw.

Would something like this work?
Amico Auto Car Rotatable Antenna Ornament Silver Tone w Hex Wrench Screw : Amazon.com : Automotive

Thanks.

humm... would you be able to change your listening style to listen to mp3's or internet radio? iheartradio, pandora, winamp, etc. i dont even listen to FM/AM radio these days unless in my garage playing top-40 in the background just to keep my head fresh with the times. (i dont fall into the top-40 age group).

if so you can just hook you your celphone headphone output into your Fit and if you have unlimited data, well, it's all free.

I could and do listen to podcasts, MP3s, audio books... I have Pandora, but I like the morning radio shows (in either Metro area). I heart radio would work, but an antenna is ideal.

Could I put a 1' or 2' antenna in place of the factory one?

would a longer antenna damage the roof? especially going through a car wash or something?

ive done PDR repair on a roof of a car where the guy accidentally drove it through the carwash and the rotating brush bent the metal surrounding the antenna...

I have a Shark Fin. Performance was same as OEM.

The are two things you can do. There is a signal booster or an amplified antenna that you can purchase from Crutchfield.com

The other more expensive route is to invest in a HD radio set up. The antenna is dual band and it really rocks when you listen to regular AM/FM stations. My wife has this in her Pilot.

HD radio is going to suck unless you have very good reception. unlike analog FM, when the signal weakens the sound drops off completely (mutes). if one's having issues receiving analog FM, chances are HD radio is going to SUCK big time.

HD radio works best stationary at home, imho.

That very well could be but my wife as an HD radio set up in the Pilot and it gets reception miles and miles further than my OEM radio in my Fit. By that I mean when the HD antenna is used to pick-up FM reception.

The only time we have issues with the HD radio is mid town and only on certain streets with no view of the sky at all. In the open I can vouch for the HD set-up over stock any day.
