so no reason to be an arse.
Not trying to be. I also have no car/motorcycle payments, and one home is paid off (mortgage on 2nd). But you're right, perhaps I was a bit of an ass. :P

But to stay on topic, I'm very careful with parking and probably too anal about the car, even though it's "only" a Honda Fit. But yes, it's safe. When street parking, I look for end spots, or very large spots. If I absolutely cannot find an end spot, I'll look for one between two higher end cars. If I still cannot find one, I'll suck it up and pay for garage parking. In the past (not with the Fit), I have simply gone home because I couldn't find a parking spot!

For parking lots, same thing. Look for spots all the way in the end, or hugging a curb where you can be 0.5 inches from it. I plan to keep my car spotless for half a million miles!

Yea am just concern cuz I dont want to deal with the bad news with my car cuz the insurance only pays off the car and only leaves u with enough to get a used car.

good cause you mentioned below in your intro and you were making payments on a car you couldn't really afford so there's no need to talk down at us here cause i can afford a new M3 cash and drive it once a week if i wanted.

Nothing kills a car faster than living outside and the elements wearing on it.

Plus vandalism is very frequent, and you risk the rims being stolen. My car was egged multiple times years ago when I didn't have a garage. I'd do everything in my power to garage it.

yah, for exterior of the house get one with nightvision. but if you have plenty illumination at night, you might be able to get away with a simple indoor camera facing out the window.

i do have ADT on the house too. it's worth the investment imho. it's like 35bucks/month for the monitoring fee.

Hm, not sure where you got where "I couldn't afford". I didn't WANT to. Is it honestly worth keeping ANY car, let alone one you're making payments on, when you drive <10K miles a year? No. I got the Fit because I loved Fits since they came out and it's a very practical car. It's priced well and can last me half a million miles probably if I take care of it.

Anyway, I'm not talking down to anyone and I apologize if it appeared so. I'm anal about my cars and stuff too. But ANY car is safe to park outside IMO.

sounds good. you and i share different values but at least we are on the same page on the Fit's.

i personally have 2 cars i drive less than 5k a year. and it's well worth it to me cause i like driving them, but also like working on them and detailing them... make them feel and look nice. these are toys in my head with no practical use as a car. probably similar to your bike. i dont park them at the stores or outside overnight cause i just dont trust the general public and animals.

they're not supercars of any sort and that doesn't matter. the effort i put into the cars, i dont want ruined by some arse or bird.

To stop a thief, sometimes you have to think like one. If you were a thief getting ready to steal some wheels, the only thing to really prevent is different wheel locks, a sensitive alarm(ex. Viper alarms have sensors where even if a person walks near your car it'll give them a warning, if they dont leave, alarm goes off). If your car is really that important to you, then you should invest in a Viper Alarm. Best solution for your problem

Yes they will, but it will make it a little more of a pain in the ass for an amateur thief. Much in the same way that an alarm isn't going to stop anyone from stealing your car or breaking into it. And a kill switch/viper/immobilizer/flame thrower won't even prevent your car from being stolen if someone really wants to take it.

It's just an added layer of protection that doesn't cost much, so why not use it.

I've never had a garage and kept my previous two cars (1995 Infiniti G-20 and 1987 Acura Integra) outside in/near NYC and while they didn't look new when I sold them, after a good cleaning they looked pretty decent. Rain/snow/wet leaves really didn't seem to do much to them (although they didn't look quite as nice as my mom's car, always garaged, when we sold it, but they still looked fine for their age).

So back to the OP. If leaving the car outside really worries you, then just keep waking up in the morning and move your car , and keep it in the garage. Anticipating your next question (whether you should get an alarm/wheel locks, or which wheel locks to get ), I dug through some archive threads that might interest you:

That's why when I park my car, I remove the wheels and leave the car sitting on cinder blocks every time!!! Throws them for a loop and gives me more time.

It's a PITA but well worth it!!

Get an alarm with tilt sensor if worried about wheel theft. Locks aren't very effective.

Snapped this picture yesterday when parked in a shopping complex. Hugging curb and end spot. No door dings! :P
