Thumbs up New Taffeta White Navi - Armrest Question

New Fit owner here! I picked up this 2011 Sport with navigation the other day.

I'm mostly loving it, but I did have a question. Why is there only an arm rest on the driver's seat? The passenger seat is kind of uncomfortable without one. I considered putting in one of those center console armrests, but I'd probably have to remove the driver's rest to do that. Anyone know how easy that is to do, and if there's a part to cap the left over hole?

The driver side arm rest is simple to remove just pop the cap and take off the nut and pull off. The two metal pieces just unscrew to be removed. Congrats on your purchase.

Congrats and welcome! I see your dog enjoyed the ride

Yes, you do have the remove the drivers arm rest. Removing the drivers arm rest is extremely easy, and with the center console arm rest, a cap is include to cover the whole in the seat. Installation of the center console arm rest is a bit more difficult, it requires a bit of drilling and such (didn't have a metric drillbit on-hand myself.) but it is well worth the purchase.

I just bought the same car a few weeks ago (2010 edition).
I'd love an armrest too, but afraid of the $180 price tag.
I'll add it to my wish list for later this year.

Congrats! I am loving mine.

Check out what I did to my emblems. They look great on the white car:

Thanks for the help and the welcome! On my lunch break I went out and was able to pop off the armrest without any problems. I can't afford $200 for an armrest either, so I was considering one like this:

Honda Fit Center Console Armrest Storage Box 09-12 : Amazon.com : Automotive Honda Fit Center Console Armrest Storage Box 09-12 : Amazon.com : Automotive

Unfortunately it does not say whether or not it comes with something to cover up the old armrest hole. Has anyone purchased a similar off-brand armrest?

I bought and then cancelled. My worries is stability.
The aftermarket ones just go into the cupholders and then screw into the plastic.
I usually put a decent amount of weight on the armrest and would worry about how stable that would be.

The honda one bolts into the brackets mounting into the frame itself.

I think I will save up and get honda one down the road.
If you decide to go for one of the aftermarket ones, keep us updated. I'd love to hear more.

Good point. They have some that go into two cupholders which I'd imagine is pretty secure. Especially if you use a few screws as well. I may try it soon. If I do, I'll post pics.

I do like the idea of $50-$60 versus $180. Keep us updated.
Thanks,

I was replying before we had an internet outage. Haha. I have the $200 one and it's worth the stability, I don't think it'll ever break. I'm a big guy, and I like to put my weight on it. I had a previous cheap one, I dropped 50 on it on Ebay, and my buddy managed to break it easily getting out of my Fit one night. By the time I bought the second one I wished I'd just went for the $200 one to begin with. I think if you don't use it to lift yourself out of the car () you may be okay.

I bought a cheapo ebay one for around $50. If you look around on ebay, there's a cheaper one that doesn't have a hinge, and a more expensive one that has a hinge for swiveling up so it doesnt get in your way. I got the more expensive one.

The screws that hold the armrest together are crap. I barely put any weight on it and the screws slipped out. I had to use super glue to hold it together. Another time, my friend was using it as a support to get out of the car. Another area popped off. I had to use super glue again to hold it back together. But, after using a ton of super glue, it does hold some weight =P.

Does the factory arm rest get in the way of the stick shift? I'm worried it might not work so well with a manual transmission.

I can't imagine so, it's sold for A/T and M/T. It sits at it's further point about 2-3 inches from the end of the handbrake on my A/T.

Directions are included for M/T as well. Hope that helps ease your mind.

Thanks that does help. I didn't think to check the instructions. This mod is now on my short list!

I am looking Honda Fit/Jazz GE8 armrest and of course from Honda Access. A bit lucky I found it in Amazon.com. However, Bernardi does not ships the item to Malaysia. Anyone here could help me to get this armrest with reasonable price? I thought Bernardi offers is such a great price though.
