3rd party in-dash navigation

3rd party in-dash navigation
I'm thinking of buying a Fit. The navigation system the dealer offers is $1700. So I'm thinking of getting a 3rd party navigation system since some of them are under $1000.
I'd like to know if I can use all controls on the steering wheel and USB ipod thing with 3rd party navi.
I was also wondering how much I have to pay in addition to the navi. I need some professional to install it.
Also, would this decrease the resale value in the future?
Thank you,

i don't see how adding an aftermarket navi will cost more than an OEM navi. You can buy a navi unit from crutchfield (most expensive website) and they will include everything you need to install it yourself. even if you go to a worstbuy, head unit installation is around $60 or so.
in order to use the steering wheel controls, youll have to buy an adapter which costs about $50, all u can do yourself too. if u buy from crutchfield, techsupport can coach u thru all your installation needs.

Aftermarket is definitely cheaper to do. There are a lot of options out there too. THe installation is really easy on the Fit too. If you are able to just follow instructions you can do it step by step from others posts on here. If not Best Buy will probably charge like 200 for install.

I seriously disagree with that! You can get a MUCH better unit aftermarket and even after installation and adapter to work with steering wheel controls, and it will still be far less than $1700, which is a complete rip off for the unit you get. Now if Honda was charging $1000 then maybe you could argue it's a half decent value while maintaining factory look, but at $1700, you're paying far more for an inferior unit compared to aftermarket ones.

Yeah, it's more, but full factory warranty, full factory controls and connections and future resale value all factor in to the bottom line. It's more. It's just maybe not as wide a gap as it initially seems.

My JVC KW-NT300 was $814 out the door of bestbuy in december 2012, that price included taxes and extended warranty
Can find same unit on sonicelectronix.com for $499 with free shipping
Why bother with the honda system when it is so limited in function?
I wager you can get an aftermarket deck fully isntalled for less then $200 even at an expensive local car audio shop that warranties their work
Just start researching locally

Crutchfield In-Dash Navi starts at $750 for a reputable Navi (less $20 if you've never purchased from crutchfield before and PM me for a referral code). $50 gets you the SWI (steering wheel interface) so $800 shipped with the instructiosn for installation, harnesses, adapter plates, antenna adapter, ... etc...
Do it yourself and you have $800 and a full 1 year warranty. Make it a 3 year warranty for $100 more (Matching honda Factory warranty) for a total of $900. Add Installation for another $100 and you are saving $700.
What you get?
Better sound - Aftermarket head units have MUCH better sound
Better iPod Navigation - OEM iPod navigation is Much worse (at least on the stock stereo. likely not much better on Navi units)
100X Better Navigation. Maps are more regularly updated and usually don't cost anywhere near as much (if anything at all) - Navi is also more up-to-date (technology-wise). OE Navi is ancient as far as the interface is conerned.
Upgradability - Easily add a subwoofer, amps, etc...
There are no down-sides other than either having to install yourself or have someone else do the work (Self install is easy enough - I just installed my own Double-din Head unit - non-navi... I have a garmin and a Galaxy Nexus Phone)
Aftermarket!

not to mention if u get oem navi and have the dealer install it, they will probably charge u $200 for a 30 min job. oem should just plug and play. while aftermarket may take an inexperienced person a little longer since you will have to solder/crimp wires together.

I bought an '08 Sport in '09 and immediately installed a Pioneer AVIC U-310BT indash navi, bluetooth, drives ipod from the head unit, etc. Factory navi wasn't an option on the GD3 models (at least here in the US). The Pioneer is Garmin based. I found it on closeout for $139 at bestbuy.

That said, there's no reason now to go with OEM unless you just HAVE to have the full Honda package and abhor aftermarket (which is obviously not the case for the OP)
