I'd like to hear about people who high rev at 3500-4000+ RPM constantly. How's the Fit going with high mileage? Is it burning oil? Is the engine in good shape? Just curious...

 

High rever here. '07 Sport automatic, 136K miles. No oil consumption. Still good shape. Oil changed by maintenance minder.

 

I constantly rev mine to red line, I only have 75000 miles though I've been boosted for about 10k and still no issues. Oh and mine is an 08.

 

engine still in good shape. mpg drop from 36 to 34.5 due to revving above 4k. sounds nice to rev above 4k though.

 

I typically shift at 4,500 on a daily basis, 5,500 when I am in a hurry. I recently got a FlashPro, and set the rev limiter above the stock limit of 6,500. Now whenever I have a chance to fart around, I'll take it to 7,000 rpm. FYI, it feels like it wants to rev higher!
I presently have 209k on my '07 GD3 5AT. I burn about a quart of 0W-20 Amsoil every 10-15Kmiles depending on how hard I drive. So far, the engine has been holding up just fine!
BTW OP, do you really consider 4,500 rpm as "high revving?"

 

I'm not going to pretend a Honda engine can run at 4500RPM continuously for 100k miles and not wear at all, but in general the RPM range is there to be used - assuming you're keeping up with the maintenance, of course.

Now, if the question is, "if I drive like a big hoon, what will my MPG be?" the answer is, you're going to have bigger problems than MPG. Chiefly, your problems will surround extricating yourself from the rear bumper of a Dodge Lariat.

At 88,000 and mostly high revs. Someone stated it is supposed to rev high especially in 5th gear on the highway. So high revs it will always be with redlining it at least once a week. Still running strong

I wonder what is worse for the engine : 4,000 RPM on the highway all the time or some shifting at 4,500. Anyone constantly on the highway at 4,000 RPM? How is the engine?

I have a 2011 MT and on the highway I keep around 3,500 RPM and no problem whatsoever. I was curious to know about people who go faster than that on a daily basis.

 

I don't rev too much on the street but the highway is where I'm at for 30mi 1 way to work.
I've got a GD3 Base 5spd and at 141k miles, she runs strong. I stay with traffic in the morning at roughly 75-85. Haven't had a problem yet. I need a valve cover gasket, I think, to address my car's tiny oil leak. (I religiously clean the engine bay to check for leaks and other issues)

I do wish the car had a 6th gear to bring the 3500-4500 rpms down to something like 2k to 2500.

 

4000 rpm is somewhere 90. That's hauling ass man. Montgomery police don't fool around, I'm lucky to get away with 5 over.

 

4k is something closer to 80-85, in a GD.

I'm fine with 85 because the police here are too busy giving tickets to the broken down cars on the side of the highway they let speeders fly by.

 

Looks good to see the Fit going strong even with constant high revving. I remember reading that the highest RPM to make it last for an engine like this was was like 3,100 RPM (some calculations about how the engine is made) but someone said that Honda made it stronger than that. Running at 3,500-4,000 RPM all day long and still going strong seems to prove the point.

Any long distance commuter doing constant highway at 3,500-4,000 RPM?
