I want to sit lower in my Fit.

After haven driven a few different cars recently (BRZ, Miata, etc), I realized one thing that really bugs me about my Fit...the tall seating position.

I want to sit lower...how do I go about doing this? New seat(s)? Rails? Etc? I know absolutely nothing about this...

Any thoughts or can someone point me in the right location?

(just realized I probably should have posted this in the interior forum...)

Keep in mind that removing stock seats will set off your airbag light if that is something that matters to you or the police / inspection stations in your area.

It's probably the only reason that I haven't seriously considered aftermarket seats myself. Plus, regardless of legality, I've heard that insurance agencies might not be fond of covering any possible accidents if they determine that your safety / airbag systems were disabled or imporperly functioning. I'm not sure how the airbags function without the stock seats.

they have aftermarket bucket seats with side airbags and as long as you call your insurance company to have them verify and ok those being put in you'll be fine.

I've actually never heard of these and I'm genuinely intrigued.
Do they include the weight sensors, or have a way to mount the stock ones to the new seat?

I would definitely love some sportier seats.

Edit: Googling leads me to no information about aftermarket seats that contain side airbags.

For the record, I don't necessarily want to disuade OP from getting aftermarket seats if thats what they really want, but feel that they should know about the issues that come along with it.

I remember skimming through a couple forums before about aftermarket seats and a few threads came up with 1 that has airbags, i believe this issue was also brought up on Fitfreak also. I believe they were Recaro's but not sure which model

That's going to set me back quite a bit. But I'd like to keep the seat as low as possible, so looks like I might be modifying the seat rails as well. ........

Recaro has a few models that have SAB (side air bag), but be prepared to spend some extra $$$$ for that feature. Most just do the 2ohm resistor trick to avoid the warning light.
As far as the weight sensor, I don't think any aftermarket seat has that. You might be able to modify the oem weight sensor to the aftermarket, but I think the only successful attempt at that was the Si seat swap iirc..

If I were to do it I'd definitely get the SAB model only drivers side...

I agree 100%, I've had my share of older Honda's to be used to the lower seating position, and even though I've had some bigger cars in between, and even after 4+ yrs.... I still find the seat way too high!!!!! It really feels like you're driving an SUV, or minivan at the least.

As for aftermarket rails, that might get you a little lower, and maybe in combination with an aftermarket seat a little lower than that (although I think most add a little height).... I don't think there's much more we can do aside from modding the stock seat somehow.

The front seats really are too high.

Hi,

The solution for the driver side is very simple,
and
I think I had found the solution for the PASSENGER Side OPDS sensor.
if you really want to have the matching seat on the passenger side,
but don't want the Airbag warning to light up then this is what you had to do.

1. Use the 2ohms resistor trick to make it seem that you had the side airbag still connected
2. Took the OPDS Control Module from your standard OEM seat
3. Either buy a new seat back (which had the OPDS Sensor Pad), or rip the OPDS sensor pad from your current factory seat back
4. Connect those OPDS sensor Pad to OPDS control Module and connect the OPDS control module to the factory wiring (buy the seat wiring if you need to).
(don't forget to do all this with battery disconnected
5. Oh try to hide the OPDS control module and the OPDS sensor pad under your new seat, well improvise on this

There you go

I figured if anyone would figure it out, it would've been you.

It's funny how the OP's thread went from wanting to sit lower in the drivers side, to passenger seat replacement issues (sensors), to side air bags, and back to seat replacement sensor issues.
