I don't use cruise control. Then again there aren't any 4-lane highways near here either.

The last time I was in W. Colo it wasn't flat. The scale may be different enough so that cruise makes sense for you. Around here I'd be fiddling with the accel/decel controls constantly.

The last time I drove a car any distance (friend's CRV) the cruise was harsh. For every dip in the road the cruise would back off hard then accel hard. Basic comfort required using my foot instead and I got slightly higher efficiency than my friend has ever recorded.

 

Sprocket, my drive is through what's affectionately called " the stinking desert". Elevation from mid 4000-5000 feet. Very straight, boring 4-lane. I would not own a car w/o cruise control for this trip. Don't use it in bad weather/ icy roads, which is generally less than 6 times/yr.

The road has some rough spots, but the cruise does OK. I like the decel/excel feature. I use it if I hit a slower moving bottleneck. It works like my Camry did :-)

 

See sig for # - I get around that regardless -a/c on/off, full throttle blasts, etc. I use the cruise control a lot and tires are usually at 36psi.

Best tank was 37.6 on a back road drive with the cruise set at 60 and only having to tap the brakes a tiny bit if the turn was marked 35mph.

Just about 20 mpg better than what I was getting out of my X.

This thing uses so little gas it's not even a concern when I'm revving that little engine out.

 

about 32 mpg with 50/50 driving. Highway is around 37 mpg without trying; on rural two-lanes it's about 40 mpg. I've managed to get up to 45 mpg staying in the right lane and keeping it around 60-65 mph.

On the other end of the spectrum, I was at 19 mpg once with A/C, full load and all city driving. That was painful.

 

19 does sound painful! Going over mountain passes this weekend. Curious.

I counted stop lights on my 60 mile/one-way commute. 22. I have found trucks and SUVs on that road can be as rude to a Fit as they are to a corolla. They have to stop for gas more, though.

My dealer fixed the little scratch some high schoolers accidentally put in my car the first day of my commute. Free, not a trace. That was awesome!

 

Between 31-34 mpg. About 50/50 driving, and varying passengers.

 

better than the 15.6-16.4 I averaged in my x-runner when daily driving it (just me, no load in the bed. could've been even worse.)

 

36-37 Its pretty hilly here, but city or highway, I manage to keep it the same. My fiance got a 2013 base manual transmission, and he's getting way MORE than mine is. He knows how to drive a manual pretty well, though.

I got 39.2 latest fill-up. 250 miles (not empty), half through a storm w torrential rain at times, wet roads w accumulated water. Tomorrow, over the passes. Hope the roads will be clear. I'll hit 1k miles and have had the car 2weeks. Fortunately, I don't have as much work travel when college is not in session. Engine is broken in!

 

I have had the Fit 5MT for two fill-ups now, first tank was 32.1mpg, second tank 36.6mpg. First tank was kind of a wash because I bought the car used and dont know what was leftover in the tank from the previous owner, though I filled up with 92. Second tank I made some adjustments to my driving style and aired up the tires, they were at 35psi, I filled to 45psi. I went 330 miles on 9 gallons. Lots of heavy traffic and some uphill freeway, never faster than 65mph. Thus far I am ecstatic coming from my last vehicle, 2009 Frontier V6 averaging 18-19mpg no matter how conservative I drove.

 

Cars actually work the best in cooler humid weather. There's a lot of science behind that, so I'll spare you a lot of details and say 'enjoy the weather', because your car sure will.

 

Every car I've ever owned runs better in the cold. The air is more dense...

 

Interesting on cold air. I think it's the icy and snow on the road that defeats mileage where I live, especially if you use studs. My Corolla 01 MY still averaged around 40, though. It will be interesting to watch, for sure.

Made it over a 10k pass just now. Handles pretty differently than my Corolla up the steep slopes but did ok in 4th -just a little slower. I think the mileage will be ok. About 140 miles, 1/4 tank down. 10 going up, 60 coming down. Anyone else have experience over 10k + mountain passes? Mileage? Power?

 

I think there's a temperature range, in general, and humidity level, that works best for cars. Its not necessarily 'the colder the better'. As an example, the weather in Seattle or Vancouver is probably a good environment for an engine, if that puts it into perspective. I suppose its 'the colder the better, to a point'.

 

Just went and filled my tank up for the second time and got 40.5 Mpg on a 17 mile commute back and forth to work and it was right on with my cars MPG estimator. Pretty cool and definitely liking the good gas mileage.

 

I have stopped keeping track.

 

My trip over the San Juan Mountains and to New Mexico was a little lower. 38.6. Part is the mountains. I think the poorly maintained 2-lane is not the best, either. Lots and lots of bumps and potholes. I've got almost 1 k on it in 2 weeks. 39.6 average. It's had a lot of conditions in a short time.

 

I really appreciate everyone's input on MPG. Made it back home over the passes. I think I am learning to do the 10k climbs a little more fuel-efficiently. At least the dash would seem to say that.

I appreciate knowing about the experiences of others. After 20 years of corolla, I'm adapting. I'm really loving the Fit. Road trip was awesome!

 

Just back from first longish trip- cruise set at 65 on relatively flat highway with no AC on and averaged 41 MPG.
