Is there a way to Lock doors without having them closed?

Has anybody figured out how to change the fob door lock commands so that the doors can be locked without being closed. While I have the keys in my hand I like to lock the doors as I exit, that way I can hear it, the way it is now I have to wait until passenger closes door to be able to lock it.

its a feature that exists to prevent you from locking the keys inside.

It doubles as a safety to catch any open doors

While it's not the key fob, you can lock the doors while exiting using the manual lock knob next to the door handle or, I assume, the power lock button by the window buttons.

Slightly curiously, the manual lock button on the driver's door (on my '12 Fit, at least) will also power-lock all the doors and activate the simple alarm system that comes with the car. I guess the car thinks it's the key being used to mechanically lock the driver's door.

Thanks Drew, didn't think about the manual door lock, works for me as I can hear it while in the car, now all I have to do is change 20 yrs of hitting the fob to using the manual knob on exit and she can take all the time she wants. to close the door.

She can be slow at times.

I am in habit of hitting the switch on the door after I open it when exiting.
