Is the FIT safe for a childs car seat?

Hi all,
I am new to Fitfreak and Honda in general, and if this has been discussed previously I'm sorry but I do not have much free time to read through older posts due to work.

I am looking at buying a 2009 Honda Fit Sport from a private seller, and was just curious if there are any Fit owners out there with children, and what your opinions are.
I'm considering the Fit over others in the same class due to the fuel efficiency, cargo space, and bc I've heard Honda's are reliable, long lasting cars with minimal problems. I will mostly be using the car to drive many miles for work weekly and I am truly hoping the claims of the Fits mpg's are true.

Thanks for your comments and time all,

-Greg

I've had both forward facing full size car seats (2x), and boosters, and they all fit just fine. I never had to do rear facing so I'm not sure about that, but from what I've read on here several people have found rear facing seats that fit well, there was a decent discussion thread on it some time back.

I know you don't want to or have time, but you may have to search some.

It might be easiest to just take your car seats with you when you look at the Fit and see how those particular models work out for you. (Note that the rear seat back can be set in a couple of different positions by pulling the fold-down lever. Perhaps the car seat will more readily fit in one or the other recline setting.)

Generally speaking, the Fit is fine with car seats and children. It does have all the typical (and now required) child seat tethers and anchors, and window lockout button, and inside door latch disable lever for the rear doors.

Thanks for the comments guys, and DrewE great advice on taking the car seat with me. It sat well in the backseat and was snug.
Thanks again guys for the feedback.

I have a 3.5 y.o. daughter. Car seats are no problem. Fit is a solid car in terms of reliability (especially those made in Japan, because recently I've heard some rust issues on some Fit's made in China). MPG is great - I get constant 6.7l or 35-36MPG - mixed driving (city/hwy) on regular (cheapest gas). Mostly highways will yield better MPG - like close to 40MPG, mostly city will get you around 32-33MPG.

Now the only thing that I personally feel one has to watch is the fact that Fit no matter how good its rigid body structure is - still is a compact car. Thus when I put my car seats I prefer to put it in the middle of rear seats - safest, but that way adults will have problems fitting in; so if you have to put a car seat on a side - I would put it behind the passenger seat - I feel like it's safer there - since I only put that side towards incoming traffic when I'm turning left only - and I can control that myself (meaning I can do it only when it's safe). I know that most of us want to put car seat on drivers side due to convenience of getting child into it and from it. However, drivers side is a little more risky IMHO - due to chance of oncoming traffic loosing control and skidding into driver side of the car. Also I put car seat as far away as possible from the door - even couple of inches will help in case of serious accident.
All IMHO of course and I'm sure all of us have their own tricks and knowledge about safety. Just my 2 cents.

Thank you all for your replies.
I am now the owner of a 2009 Fit Sport! I am skilled under the hood, so now once I find time, I will do all fluid changes, replace front brake pads, and after I research it on fitfreak.net, an after market air intake as I'm sure there is a link on here for it somewhere (I want to see if its worth it) as I do with every vehicle I purchase.

Again thanks guys! Appreciate it, oh and my 3 yr old daughter loves the fact she doesn't have to "climb" into it like with the suburban, and its her favorite color...Blue! I'll post pics hopefully this weekend.

Also NOS sticker gives +20hp +15 torque and +1 to charisma
I'm just very skeptical of cold intakes giving anything at all. In fact I can google a pdf. document with more or less scientific research done with cold intakes. Results were: yes it improves acceleration by 3-4% in general, but does nothing in regards to increase of horse power or torque or MPG. But it looks good - so at least that.

So 2 stickers will give me 40HP! lol I'm sold

I have had noticeable increases in performance when I upgraded intakes in my trucks, but again I know nothing about the Fit, hell I know nothing about Honda in general other than what others have told me. But I will read up on intakes for the FIT, but I always perform a full tune-up, plugs, fluids, etc...

I feel very safe with my 2 kids in car seats in my Fit, though I've never actually been in an accident in it. I did a HPS intake in my 2011 and love it. Tiny bit more sound, tiny bit more power (maybe?), and better fuel mileage.

I bought my '13 Base to wear out hauling my year old grandson from his mother, to my son, and then to our house. I drove 300 miles today.
The car seat attaches easily, you can tilt the seat back a little. I think it is easier to take him in and out than my wife's Accord.
The stroller will fit with the magic seat up leaving the back free for 50lb bags of dog food and groceries. There is no automobile value like a Fit. It's fun too!
