So my girlfriend has a 2010 Fit Sport with 39k. I've read a lot of places that you need to check valve clearance and change the trans fluid on a regular basis. Now, I have always been skeptical of flushing trans fluid, Because in most cases I've seen it do more harm.. What is everyones input on this.

 

I have a 2010 and they drained and filled the tranny fluid at around 35 k--valves were not adjusted. I don't think it is a true "flush"- but drain & fill

 

You won't have to worry about valves until the 100,000 mile mark, or sooner if they start getting noisy before then. 100,000 miles will also be the point where you need to change the spark plugs. As far as trans fluid, search the forums. You will find many differing opinions. Personally, on my 2010 automatic trans, I drain the transmission fluid at every engine oil change. Almost 4 quarts will drain, then I just replace it with the same amount of fresh fluid. This is not a "flush" and doesn't replace all the fluid in the transmission.

 

Every 30k miles i just drained and filled it back up with fresh fluid. I used a how-to off this forum somewhere. It doesn't get every bit of fluid out just bc some is in the converter still. But I never had a problem with doing that method.

 

To change over 90% of the fluid, you have to drain and refill 3 times. I used to do that, but now feel it is a waste of fluid. Now I just do it one time about every 24,000 miles or every other year. Use Honda DW1 auto trans fluid and nothing else.


Make sure the 3/8' square drive extension is firmly in the drain plug so it doesn't twist out and make it gnarly. You can reuse the aluminum washer if it isn't to bad, but it's best to buy a few extras.

 

Do you replace the tires when they get dirty too? This is extreme.
