Volume Knob Jumps on CD Use

Found this thread, but it was rather old and inactive so I felt I would start a new one.

I have a 2009 Honda Fit Sport with about 120K miles. A few months ago, I noticed that my radio volume started jumping several levels when I turned the knob one increment up or down. So if the volume is at 10, it might jump up to 12 by turning it up one increment or down to 7 if I turn it down. It doesn't always happen and it's not particularly detrimental, but it is rather annoying.

Strangely enough, it only seems to happen when I'm playing a CD, and not when using the radio of the AUX jack.

Any ideas on a fix or maintenance for this? Many thanks!

Mine just started doing that on AUX with my USB based music. 2009 57,000 miles. I heard Honda radio rebuilds are big big bucks.

Ugh, that's lame. I imagine it would be expensive to either rebuild or replace with an aftermarket radio since the head unit on that model is so unusually shaped and really integrated into the dash.

Replacing with an aftermarket radio isn't that hard as Metra makes a kit to fit in the dash. I would say 100$ for the radio, maybe 50-60$ for connectors and the dash kit.

Will do that if eventually the stock radio stop working.

Good to know. It hasn't gotten to that point yet, but it's good info to keep in mind. Thank you.

Sounds it is getting bad and could be shot soon. Good to thing you have enough time to look for replacement.

Mine started doing this on pretty much any mode. I exit the freeway and have a few blocks into my quiet neighborhood. I usually turn the volume down as I pull into my condo complex -- lately it has been jumping by 10-12 notches UP as I try turning it down. Makes me look like a real a-hole who wants to wake everyone up with Tupac Shakur at 1 AM.

Was hoping it would be as easy as spraying something in the knob to clean the contacts -- but so far I don't see anything that helps. Please share if anyone comes up with a solution.
