Any idea if I can just buy a radio harness from walmart for installing an aftermarket radio and take the pins from that?

Great DIY. Maybe once I'm out of warranty I'll try this out.

By the way, the 2012 Fit Sport without navigation does now come with the controls on the steering wheel. Lame...

A Little Help Please

Hi, I am lost at the following step;

"So now the hardest part for most is going to be locating
the radio side pigtails. I have no clue what size they are.
I just called a few junk yards. told them what i needed and "

What is this for ? Is it a radio pigtails from a Civic radio side or a Fit radio side ? Is there an Open Spot on the existing Fit radio where this fits that currently has nothing plugged in it ?

Any help I can get would be appreciated

Thanks

For those that done this, did you use pigtails to connect or was there another way to? It's very hard to find the pigtails that would fit this

edit: i ended up using hot glue without pigtails. just cut off the sheth to expose wires, and make sure they extend out to the other side of the harness, hot glue the wires to harness part and test.!

Has anyone successfully completed this mod on a Canadian fit? I am thinking of doing this for my 09 Fit Sport auto....as automatic Canadian Fit Sports do not have paddle shifters, I am unsure which part to order:

Manual/AT Base(?): 36770-TK6-A31 , OR
AT w/ Paddles: 36770-TK6-A41

I'm not really sure if it matters? Any suggestions?

Ok so I have been looking for civic wheels but cant find any for a good price shipped to Canada.

So I'm trying to decide which of the two switches I should order.

I'm thinking the only difference is the auto switch has the connectors/wires for the paddle shifters which as a Canadian model, my auto does not have these.

My only concern would be if the cruise control functions are different on a manual vs automatic car? I would not think so, but does anyone have any thoughts on this?

I'm leaning towards purchasing the manual switch... Another thing I will do is look through the service manual to see if I can find any differences.

Thanks

Guys, I have my car in pieces as we speak, just trying to get this project completed.

I have, however, run into a snag. I have two pins out of my old cruise harness which I'm using to plug into the cable reel harness (7 and 8) and I have radio pins which I purchased of a FF member (7 and 15).

The problem is, I cant for the life of me get these pins to go into the harness?? Should they just push in easily am I missing something? is there something I have to "open" up to allow for the pins to slot in??

(I have this question for both the radio and cable reel harness)

Any advice would be appreciated as I'd like to complete this and test it out, thanks.

Figured it out, both harnesses needed to be unlocked. Tested and works like a charm, thanks everyone!!

Thank you sir!! Your DIY was fantastic, no way I would have done it without those pictures.

BTW for everyone's benefit, I used the 2012 Honda Fit Sport (manual) controls from a US Honda dealer. Since I have an automatic Canadian Fit Sport without paddle shifters, I didn't order the auto controls. Also, the 2012 is the first model (in the US) that has steering wheel controls w/o navi. In short, this audio/cruise switch has everything I needed and no extra connectors kicking around in the steering wheel and no re-wiring of the connector (of course you still need to run wires from the cable reel to the radio).

Thanks to SilverSport for the radio pins.

^ same as his question. There's a couple junked fits for parts around here and I'm wondering if someone can fill me in on what exactly I'm looking for. I can find the buttons for $40 but idk anything about the harness and pins crap.

You need the pins that go into the harness connector that attaches to the back of the factory radio

Okay thanks. I'd have no idea what I'd be looking for and I doubt the guy would let me just go in and take that one part. He'd probably make me buy the entire unit.

What if I just took the steering wheel out of this junked 2012 fit? I'd stilll have to deal with the harnesses and pins....hmmmm

I think I have a solution to this question. Just found it today.

Connects 2 Car Audio Systems, Car Stereo, Car Radio DAB Stereos, Car interface adapters and accessories > ProductInformation

Difficult to tell from that photo but I think this would give you something you can just splice in steering controls with.

Since I'm planning to get an Asteroid Smart, I'm looking at the three of these combined:
CT10HD04
CTSHO003.2
CTASTEROIDLEAD

Well, I did *most* of this mod today. I actually bought the full harness with the Navi buttons, and tried to put that assembly together, but I found out in the end that I'm missing two parts - the grey steering wheel garnish is shaped differently on the Navi units, as is the back cover, so I couldn't actually attach my Navi buttons to it. Two more parts to order...

Funny thing I forgot to do - when I reinstalled the steering wheel, the clockspring had already reset to a position with the harness plug on the bottom, despite me having locked the steering wheel (trying to get leverage on the wheel to loosen the bolt). When I reattached the wheel, I forgot to reset this positioning, so now the steering wheel's position when the wheels are straight is about an 80 degree CCW tilt from neutral. Oops! :P

I'd *REALLY* like to have the information buttons working too, but looks like that just won't happen without serious modifications.
