Ripped a hole on the underbody

Old metal tracks punctured the sheet metal behind the driver side wheel after getting towed out of a ditch. The fit drove home fine on the highway but I'm concerned about the damage because that should be pretty close to the fuel tank. Does anyone know what this piece of sheet metal is for? The cavity inside seems to be empty, hoping that I got lucky and missed a critical component.

Damage is right behind the driver side wheel

Driver side front

Passenger side for reference

Passanger side front
