Arrrrg! Curb rash, how can I repair my wheel?

Hello.

So I live in Montreal, home of the worse streets (potholes) and drivers in the world (and I've driven cars in Africa). Seeing as I have to park in the street, I try and park close enough to the curb to avoid getting my car scraped or getting my side view mirror smashed by a poor driver. So I'm backing out of a spot and I pulled a bonehead move and turned my wheel and the front end swung around and my front mags clipped a particularly high curb. I heard the horrible metallic scraping sound and instantly grimaced at the damage. I've got some metal polish but I was wondering if I could slightly sand or polish the rim to improve the appearance before using the metal polish. Pic of the damage included below

You could probably DIY it as the rim rash doesn't look so deep. It's also not too obvious as the wheels are silver - imagine how much more the gouging would stick out had this been a painted wheel.

I'm a klutz with DIY metalwork though so I'd bring the wheels to a shop for restoration - but only if I've accumulated enough curb rash.

Thank you all! I think I'll check YouTube before I think of replacing the whole wheel! It is actually not that noticeable from afar; the picture up close makes it look worse than it is.

I'm looking to get some konig retracks for next summer anyway. Thanks for your advice!

you can get it repaired by a wheel shop or just get a new used one.
