Old thread, I know! What made you decide on Enkei instead of SSR wheels?

 

Old thread, but thought I'd give my thoughts.

I bought some used Velox Pg-5 a few years ago, and finally got around to getting them installed in the summer of 2011, putting the Hankook Ventus V2 concepts on them (205-40-17s). I'm not hotrodding around so I didn't need the high-performance summer times, and TBQH, I just wanted one set of wheels/tires.

In restrospect, I wish I'd gone with the 45 profile, as this past winter in the DC area I hit some potholes that flattened the tires and dinged up the rims.

I never had any problems with rubbing, and I got a good 25K miles before the problems and still had tons of tread left on the tires that survived.

I love the 17" rims because they really turned the car from leaning on corners with the stock OEM wheels/tires, to tracking like a slot car on a track. I've seen some hydroplaning, but then again, I saw hydroplaning with the stock wheel/tire combo. On snow, the 205's did slide a little more.

Anyone know of some 17" 6.5" wheels that are also very light weight?

You should check out the Kosei wheels at Tirerack.. They look good, are lightweight and they aren't at all overpriced.. I put a set of 16"x6.5"-45mm offset K4-Rs with 205-50-16s on my GD-3 after using RPF1s for 15,000 miles.. The width and offset of the RPF1s and a lot of fast curves caused the camber to appear to have negative camber with them and there was some clearance issues with 195-55-15" tires also but not that big of a deal.. The 16" Kosei K4-Rs weigh a little over a Lb more and had no clearance problems with the wider tires even with a bit of a drop by way of Buddy Club coilovers.. The larger diameter, width and weight of the tires actually wasn't all that bad. I do have to get on the throttle sooner to accelerate around slower cars on 2 lane highways but not as much as I was anticipating.

 

Yeah true! I'm never one to start a new thread on an old subject. It'll make it easier for someone else searching in the future to find all the info they needs in as few threads as possible.
