Tire re-use..

Factory Dunlops, 185/55/16 on a 16x7 wheel.

Will that work? I mean, its not like its going to stretch right?? I know most people recommend or run a 205/40 (or in the neighborhood of that). Ive searched, but I really cant find anything on it. Im not trying to stretch, I just dont want to buy new tires. If you know something I dont, please... educate me.

According to the specs for the Dunlop SP Sport 7000 A/S on Tire Rack, it would be .5 of an inch too much of a stretch. Here is the link below where I got this info.

Dunlop SP Sport 7000 A/S

Yes, half an inch doesn't sound like much and I honestly don't know much about stretching tires but I personally wouldn't want to risk having the tire's bead come off while driving because of the tire being stretched out of its recommended boundaries.

I'd recommend wearing out these tires first, then getting a set 205/50R16 tires for a 16x7 wheel. That or find a 16x6.5 wheel, which the 185/55R16 can be safely mounted onto.

Yea I had looked that up, and was aware of the .5 excess. Just wanted some outside confirmation of wether it would work or not. But like I said, is it really stretching?? I have tried to find a picture of a 185 on a 7" wheel, but no luck.

Thanks for the input Hootie
Any more info/opinions welcome

I was looking up on tire rack (its the only wheel visualizer i know of)
and for these 16x7 enkei's, under product description, it recommends 185/55/16...which, we have established is "limited" to 6.5" wheels. lol

It's not something I'd recommend- you'll lose some diameter, which in turn will reduce your effective final drive. Also, It could prove easy to damage/unseat the tire on potholes and rough roads, which, obviously, is bad. You COULD do it, but I'd hold off on the wider wheel for now- Mark W.
