the way I removed mine was raise the passenger side of the car as high as it would go. used a breaker bar attached to the Honda crank pulley removal tool pointed 20 degrees towards the passenger seat. Then I had a second breaker bar with a 19mm socket attached to the bolt and positioned 20 degrees towards the front bumper. The two breaker bars should look like a triangle with the ground. I then lowered the car down slowly making sure everything stayed in place until it "popped" loose. Then jack the car up and remove the bolt easily.

Let the car do all the work.

Muhahahaha!

No 1st impressions. My butt dyno has always been broken and I've been wrong one to many times. I need to do some 1/4 mile tests to reveal any results. I'm glad this chapter in modifications is finally closed. **Done**

Lightweight NST Pulley

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Some important notes.
1) Temperature while testing the lightweight NST pulley was 20F cooler than before testing the pulley.
2) My slowest run was immediately after having the Deltacams installed, no tuning, straight from the shop to the track.

Yes, there was a 20F difference BUT I need to post up some additional info. The week before having the Deltacams installed, I ran the car at Cecil County Raceway. The temperature was 46F on 10/30/15. This was before the NST pulley and Deltacam cam installation. Here was the result -->

Reaction: -.018
60': 2.431
330: 6.760
1/8 time: 10.278
1/8 mph: 69.70
1000: 13.283
1/4 mile: 15.837
1/4 mile mph: 87.57

So I lost a significant amount of power by installing the Deltacams.
However with the installation of the lightweight NST pulley the following happened -->
1) 1/4 mile time went from 16.1 to 15.6
2) 1/4 mile mph went from 86mph to 88-89mph
3) 60ft time went from low 2.5 to 2.4

So the low end torque is still there and acceleration has been significantly improved. I've said enough. I really need to get a tune to bring out what the cams are capable of but the lightweight NST pulley is 'pulling its weight'. It is working great from what I can see. If you are interested in making your car peppier with throttle response and overall acceleration, it is something worth looking into.

I won't report gas mileage or any subjective information. Because we all know when we purchase something like this we want to justify the reason for buying it. So I only posted actual results from above. That's all for now...

?? scratching head,, the stock one is not just a pulley ,, it is a harmonic balancer.. (At least it looks like it... ) The new one is a solid pulley... Arn't you worried about the potential for crank harmonics? Especially in this fairly high revving little motor?

No, I am not! And if anyone is nervous or worried about doing this modification, I highly recommend you do not do it. I have lightweight and or underdrive pulleys on all my vehicles.

My Subaru Impreza (which I have raced for years) has an Unorthodox Racing underdrive pulley that I've had on since the late 1990's. The car is still turbocharged with nitrous on the stock engine with the same pulley. I've had this car for 19yrs now (purchased in late 1996) with the U.R. lightweight/underdriven pulley being on it for around 16-17 of them. I was even on the U.R. testimonial page since the company just started in 1997. NONE of my vehicles have ever needed repair from any damage from installing and running a lightweight pulley. Ever! That's my experience.

I'm aware of the possibility of potential damage in the long run. If anyone wants to read up on literature about it, please see this link ---> Influence of Crankshaft-Pulley Dimensions on Crankshaft Vibrations and Engine-Structure Noise and Vibrations
That's a scientific approach on this subject. Yes, I have even purchased this literature as I have others on intake tests, exhaust tests, etc.
Grab a cup of tea and some popcorn and read up. I've researched this to death myself. Thanks for the heads up though.

Thanks for the response,, Just wondered because I have seen some pretty catastrophic damage in a couple other different branded engines, Not familiar with the Honda motor enough yet to know..

V8's can be really sensitive to this .. V6 motors not so much, 4 cylinder engines seem to be widely variable on harmonic issues..

Cheers

Curious, did you reset your ECU after installing the cams? Wonder if the difference was driving around for a week to let the ECU relearn with the changed cam values.

I didn't and normally I do. So while thinking the same way as you are, I called the shop owner and asked if he had disconnected the battery while installing the cams and he said he did.

I also changed mufflers from the J's 50R to the Max Flo Pro muffler since the J's was simply 'too loud'. I'm saving it for retesting later but they both are 2" in diameter and you can see straight through both of them. Plus my past tests never showed any difference between using either muffler. The J's is just...prettier, lighter and noisier.

Hi! I know this has been too long already but, just got my recently bought lightweight pulley for my gk5 from nst and already installed on the car, was wondering if you hear any noise when reving it up? Like a knocking sound or something that is loose? I checked the pulleys and all are tight.

hope you get to read this thanks.

I did not hear any knocking noises after having the pulley installed. Yeah, you will want to look into that and make sure everything is cool. Sorry everything wasn't smooth for you (If the noise is from the pulley install itself).

I just bought one myself. Do you remember the torque specs by chance? Thanks
