I still think the catch can is a great idea. Better in there than back into the engine. My 2017 is always garaged. I changed my oil at 22,500 a few months ago and when I cleaned my catch can it looked like the one all the way on the right in your video. Not so much water but oil with a gasoline smell. Engine runs great with all the horsepower its capable of making.

2,700 miles on this emptying... Much more consistent weather has prevented the condensation build up.

I keep stacking these on my toolbox and I know I am going to regret this decision sooner than later.

You'd have to look at previous posts to know what went on with distance or outdoor temps before prior emptying.

Oldest at left to most recent at right. This is still all within one oil change and I have had no noticeable drop on the dipstick

It helps to reduce / prevent carbon and oil build up in your intake manifold and valves

I have had a can on my car for the past 25,000 miles and it does absolutely nothing. I’ve captured about 10 mL of oil and some water I can only assume the water is just from condensation, no power increase, nothing.

And that's what it's suppossed to do.

It does not increase power nor performance.
It serves to maintain whatever power you have for long term by reducing buildup of the gunk.

Yes I know this, others seem to think that it has some kind of magic power. I don’t think 10 mL of oil (Or less) Burning through your engine over the course of 25,000 miles is anything to be concerned about.

It's kind of amazing the varied amounts people are capturing in a catch can. Is it the type of gas they're using? Driving type as in lots of short trips, or more long distance trip, or even if it's lots of stop/go driving?

I thought I would capture more, I drive a MT, and lots of city driving. I use regular fuel.

With this one it has trev.connected to the pcv line it will collect oil,, trev role is to allow air to the engine via pcv hose,, this adds air to your engine making you afr a bit lean but gives you some air for more combustion, it helps piston move freely at idle and coasting, lessens some engine drag and slowing down but decreases engine braking as well

youve seen my past catch can dumps, over 60ml
https://www.fitfreak.net/forums/3rd-...ml#post1416565

the last one was 1/2 of that:

I think it has alot to do with TIME, and driving habits. the 60ml example had more time, and more city driving. with my new house and new job, I now have a 150+ commute that is basically ALL freeway, and I can hit oci in no time due to the amount of driving I do m-f.

one more thing to note, those who catch little, may be doing something wrong

ie, maybe not enough baffle material, and the insides of the oil in the catch can doesnt have anything for the oil to atomize onto. just food for thought. if you look at cycling fit's samples, he catches, ALOT. and I believe he has the more baffle material out of all of us, iirc he is using 2 balls of steel wool whereas I am only using 1.

175ml of oil collected.... the can was FULL. kinda makes me wonder, if there was more than 175ml and some of it, spilled out of can and into the engine =\

time on motor = 60k
oil change interval = 12500 miles

driving style = lots of highway/hills, going typically 70mph, but lately lots of 80mph

About to do my next oil change soon. Changed right at 22500, and 500 miles shy of 27500. Lots of highway and round town driving. Been towing the 5x8 trailer weekly too for my outdoor power equipment repair business. Catch can I have not removed since the oil change, but the dipstick in the can is not even registering any level of oil waste inside. Be curious how much is in there when I do take it off to clean it out. I'll document and report. Should be in the next two weeks or so.

Right now its so M-Effin hot and humid out in CT I have no motivation to sweat bullets till I get a slight break from that weather.

Evil Energy catch can installed, with a ball of stainless steel wool. I used J30R9 certified fuel injection hose from Advanced Auto. You guys need to ditch that OEM hose because it permeates fuel smell out of it, even before I installed the catch can. And you don't need to be so anal retentive about hoses touching metal body panels, I just cut open another 3/8" hose and wrapped around the areas that are touching.
