2016 Fit LX engine and GDI Carbon build up

Does the 2016 Honda Fit Earth Dreams engine have the issues with carbon buildup and oil dilution that has been reported on other Honda engines?

Here's somebody talking about it on the 2015 Fit.

Did Honda fix this for the 2016 engine?

Oil dilution is for the 1.5L turbo engines. So it is not a problem on the Fit. From what I know carbon build up hasn't really been reported as much of a problem. Common advice for worries about the carbon build up is to do the occasional Italian tune up (as suggested in your link) or add an oil catch can.

As far as the engines go the main concern is the injectors fouling. There have been several threads on here about having the injectors and fuel rail replaced to deal with the engine throwing misfire codes. However I believe that they resolved this issue for the 2016 models and that it is mainly a concern for the 2015 models.

I'm not an expert in potential carbon deposits in engine combustion surfaces. I've read that to minimize deposits one should drive at freeway speed more often. My '17 LX CVT has not shown any carbon deposits at 35K mostly highway miles. No oil dilution as well since no issues has come up. I change the oil/filter myself when the indicator shows 15% or so.

While all direct-injection engines are at least in theory susceptible to intake valve carbon deposits, Honda engines do not appear to have a problem (despite isolated incidents to the contrary), at least not to the extent that some of the early (mostly German) GDI engines did. Deposits can form because oil vapors from the crankcase go through the PCV system and back to the intake, as intended, but because in a direct-injected engine fuel never washes over the intake valves, as in a port-injected engine, there is nothing cleaning the valves, and the oil vapors can bake onto the valves, creating hard, coal-like deposits.

Use a good-quality, full-synthetic (not synthetic blend) oil to minimize oil vapors, and don't try to max out your oil-change intervals. Also, if you are OCD about your car like I am, you can install a good-quality oil catch can to capture oil vapors before they have a chance to go back into the intake and onto the valves . The one i installed on my 2018 Fit Sport 6MT (https://rxcatchcans.com/shop?olsPage=t%2Fcatch-cans) captures quite a lot of "gunk" that would otherwise be going back into the intake. Placebo? Maybe. But it also might prevent/slow carbon deposits and also has other benefits.

Oil dilution is also a potential issue with all modern direct-injection engines, due to the high fuel injection pressure and the low-tension piston rings used in all modern cars. More fuel gets past the rings and into the oil. Another reason to change your oil before the maximum interval.

Good. I was hoping we could avoid the walnut shell blasting they use on the German marques to clear buildup. Now as long as the injectors and starter keep working, we're golden....

Whole setup

Here is my catch can. No issues on my 2017. I did have the aforementioned hesitation when cold in 2nd gear issue on my 2015, and I did not have a catch can on that. Always changed the oil at 20% life left. I dont have any issues and my catch can is about 4-5mL, bout the size of a medicine cap full of crankcase waste every 4k miles. I use STP full Synthetic 0W-20
