2020
2020
I have enjoyed my 2016 LX (from Japan) and am now considering a very serious look at the 2020, understanding this will be the last year in USA..
The car has limited power and the AC is weak, and all models are now built in Mexico, but I've had great satisfaction for these past 4.5 years...once I adjusted to the car's lighter weight and glaring dashboard!
Good advice is always appreciated, especially from owners of new 2020s.

I sometimes wonder if they’re even 2020s, or maybe just leftover new old stock from 2019 production? Would be interesting to see build dates on new ones- I could see them just selling leftovers, calling them 2020s, and there’ll be no more once they’re sold. I’d like to give Honda the benefit of the doubt, but...am not a very trusting person these days
The 2020 is virtually identical to the 2019 - Honda made no changes that I'm aware of. If I presented you with a car that I had stripped all the identification labels off and asked you to identify it as built in 2019 or 2020, could you? And would it even matter.

"On the 2014-2015 Civic and 2015 Fit, the continuously variable transmission (CVT) may have a weakened drive-pulley shaft (the part connected to the crankcase) that can break when exposed to high hydraulic pressure. This can result in power loss and even the front wheels locking up while driving"

I'm not aware of any such problems on the 2015 Fit CVT, and I don't recall seeing any posts here about this CVT problem from 2015 owners.
CarComplaints only lists 3 failures with the CVT transmission without giving specifics:

I just bought a 2020 EX after totaling my 2016 LX last month (rest easy, Twinkie). It’s only been a day but I really love it. It feels very similar power-wise but a bit more maneuverable and fun to drive. I think there’s something to be said for the major safety feature upgrades for the EX+ trims, and CarPlay is really nice to have. I don’t know that I’d have traded in my 16, but definitely digging the 20.

My 2016 LX will go to a family member, so its NOT being dumped!
Yes the trans was revised with new parts. They are NOT the same.
Where is that quote from?

Google it. There are plenty of stories there on 2015 CVT failures. And the revisions they did to correct the major issue.
I have a '16 LX, which replaced an '08 GD3. The CVT is the last of my worries. If the forum posts here are any indication, here are the problem areas. Note these have not all been fixed going into 2020 production.
1. Injector / rail assembly. All the 2015s and a few thousand early 2016s - TSB to replace the system if it failed under warranty. Problem is, if it fails out of warranty, which many here are reporting - $2-3K in repairs. Have to buy the injectors in quad-matched sets (can't buy just one). The design is still suspect. Some here have had late model (2018+) injectors replaced under warranty. Easily the most expensive repair any of us will likely face.
2. Starters & start switch failure, esp on pushbutton start models. Problem here in that diagnosis is not always correct - sometimes one gets replaced when it's really the other.
3. VTC actuator. Makes a horrible grinding noise at startup (mine does this) but otherwise harmless. Some repairs are being goodwilled by Honda. I'm ignoring mine.
4. Door and trim / headliner leaks, esp in the 2018+ models. This is just a poor design where water pools and can't get out. Bandaid fixes by Honda.
So given everything that hasn't been worked out yet - esp the injector / rail issue - if my GK5 failed, I wouldn't get another. I know all cars have issues, but I really don't want to spend $3K on injectors. That alone is a huge dealbreaker for me. I'd be going back to the GE8 at that point. At least we know what the issues are there, and they're nowhere near as severe. Heads up, people.
