Speedometer has been randomly going crazy (usually reading an absurdly high speed). Yesterday, I was cruising down a residential street at a constant speed with other cars alongside me when suddenly the speedometer kept climbing until it was reading 100+ mph. No way I'm that reckless. Issue comes and goes randomly. Usually occurs when I'm on the highway, reading that I'm going 80mph+ when that isn't possible with all the traffic around.
Also noticed for the first time recently that the needle stayed stuck at 65mph even after I turned the engine/car off.

Is this an issue with the instrument cluster? Or the Vehicle Speed Sensor(s) ?
Maybe plug in one of those OBD2 real-time tools and see if it also reads insane numbers when the speedometer is doing it.
If both are showing weird numbers, it's more likely to be the sensors. If not, it's more likely the meter itself.
I personally use Blue Driver, but there are many others that you can hook up to a phone to see real-time data.
My guess with little data I have is that it's the meter itself, because if wheel sensors are misbehaving, other things would go crazy, too, like TPMS, ABS, and what not.
My sense is that there's a bad connection between the speedo cable and the crankshaft. Otherwise, no way can it register 60+ mph with the engine off. I think you're looking at a speedo cable replacement.

Are you referring to the electrical cable that is connected to the Vehicle Speed Sensor that is attached to the transmission? I guess I would have to trace that line somehow.
I'll try to catch it one of these days misbehaving with my OBD2 scanner to reference what it is actually sensing speedwise.
Where does the sensor sense speed? Certainly, not the crankshaft since speed depends on the gearing, not just rpm from the crankshaft. And, modern cars don't use a mechanical cable.

I tried to find drawings on the VSS for our cars but it seems like there may be multiple VSS(s) (?)
Check the wiring going to the CVT speed sensor (assuming you have the CVT, otherwise there's an equivalent sensor for manual), see #16 in the diagram below:

I had a similar problem and it ended up with the delearship having to replace the instrument cluster which is a huge pain and will complicate trade in/resell because it involves "tampering" with the odometer during the replacement.
I hope yours is not that complicated.
i would replace the vss listed above. if that yields no positive results ...it may be soldering time on the instrument cluster as a fuel gauge fix on the forum points out
wasserball...its in the transmission basically, like you say ,it needs to be........the 1997 predule when crazy last year.....zero....180...zero....automatic didn't like that but still functional...cheap fix VSS
