Hey, first time Fit owner (and also first time posting) here. I'm leasing a 2019 Honda Fit LX and I took it to a Honda dealership near my house for an oil change today. I got an email from the dealership shortly after saying a bunch of other things needed to be done - changing the cabin air filter ($79 CDN), servicing the rear brakes ($90 CDN), and most concerning "machine front rotor and service pad, rotor has rust edge" ($330 CDN). I talked to the service technician about that last one and he said it's due to a combination of moisture build up and the car sitting in the driveway for long periods of time. The thing is, I drive several days a week to school and back and two days a week I spend a few hours delivering for UberEats also, so it's not like my car doesn't given driven for days and days at a time.

My car is (or was) a brand new 2019 Honda Fit LX and I've only had it for a year and a half - is this kind of maintenance normal, or at least not uncommon? Or have I been taken for a ride? I'm not auto mechanically minded, so I thought I'd try asking here. I hope this is the right forum for it; if not, let me know and I'll move this post somewhere else.

 

It takes literally under five minutes to change a cabin air filter- if you can change your underwear you can do this. So CDN 79? The tech will spend more time walking to the parts dept than he/she will on the actual labor.

Rotors get some surface rust on them which scrapes off when you drive the car (note: I'm not an expert on this but it's been my experience). Maybe ask them why if your car is having these problems it's not a warranty item/defect.

Or bring the car to a local mechanic and see what he/she says.

Also- cabin air filter change is rather early if it's your first oil change which is usually at under 10,000 miles. You can take the filter out, bang it against something a few times to get some dirt out, and put it back in.

 

they saw you coming. Rust on the rotor is normal. It happens on my BMW and Porsche. After a few braking, rust is gone. Air and cabin filters are cheap and take like 5 min to replace. If you have never done it before, google Honda Fit air and cabin or environment filters. Lots of videos, This one showing guy wearing gloves, over dramatized. You don't need gloves.

Thanks for the info y'all, based on your feedback and some feedback I've received elsewhere, it definitely seems I got suckered. Lesson learned. Although I think I might complain to them about it and see how far I get. Absolutely not taking it back to a Toronto Honda again.

I love my Fit! It's the first car I've ever owned and she's never let me down.
