Back Brake - Creaking Noise
Back Brake - Creaking Noise
When I press on the brake all the way down, I'm hearing a creaking like sound (like wood creaking - ie. rocking chair) - anyone can chime in what this might be and does it require urgent attention.
Note: this sound is evident only if I press the brake down far enough - it is not evident when I press on the brake to slow down, or come to a complete stop, which typically doesn't need the brake to be pressed that hard and all the way.
Thanks

How many miles on the vehicle?
Have the rear brakes ever been serviced?
Your rear brakes could be getting down to the wear indicator, which means they need to be replaced.
Could also be lack of lubrication and/or moisture getting into the shoe to backing plate area.
Either way, yes, you need to get this checked out asap. Odd brake noises often indicate end-of-life, so if you push it farther, you could find yourself without functioning rear brakes.

70,000 km. Forgot to mentioned, I had the front and back brakes serviced 3 weeks ago - for the back brakes, the drums were all cleaned out as maintenance work along with everything else brake related (both front and back).
It was a 2.5 hour job in total, and nothing else was reported back as requiring attention.
Thanks

I think it might be something with the anti-rollback mechanism.
I also notice that there's a "different" sound when I press harder on the brakes on an incline (while waiting for the light to change).
But under normal driving and braking, I almost never hear that weird sound.

This has been happening on my 2019 Fit ever since about 2000 mi - both B@rnardi and Pr#me Honda of Boston will not fix it under warranty. So I live with it on the drum brakes in the rear on my LX (very noisy when stopping after backing up).
No - both Honda dealers (Boston area: Bern@ardi Honda and Pr$me Honda) refused to examine it and I pushed. They said it was a wear item and not covered under warranty. I can live with this so long as the squealing isn't a warning for something that might fail early in the rear drum brakes.
